MODOK fell down and was unable to get up on this JB drawn cover.
Fortunately, he had Life Alert, and Captain America was there to assist.

That's the cover I mentioned before, the first time I saw MODOK, in my third issue of Captain America. I miss those days and the stories the real Marvel used to produce.

Fortunately, he had Life Alert, and Captain America was there to assist. *************** I completely forgot that JB drew that cover. So MODOK was only drawn by JB twice? Again, anyone know if he drew Arnim Zola outside of the back-up in CAPTAIN AMERICA?

"Face Facts"---arghh! I should have been able to at least guess some of the characters in this one (in my game of trying to guess the subject of the image before clicking on it). Very fun, very awesome image.

I started collecting Captain America during the Zeck run. That Cover
was the first time I ever saw JB draw Captain America, outside of the
conner box head. I think it's the first time I ever saw MODOK in a
comic as well. MODOK was never creepier than when JB drew him,
and the commission with SHIELD is my favorite.

John Byrne's recent commissions of MODOK are the coolest rendititions ever. MODOK looks SO evil and formidable. As opposed to goofy like most previous artists have done. But to combine the evil MODOK with such a faithful and amazing looking Zola is just genius. I also love the Human Torch and The Thing. I am still getting used to the newer styles of The Invisible Woman and Mr. Fantastic. I was just so impressionable back in the 80's and so those depictions are the ones against which I judge all other artists.

Doughboy and Arnim Zola freaked me out as a kid so I still love them now. Don't think Doughboy ever appeeared in OHOTMU though Chief.
PS. I liked how Brubaker treated Zola IN HIS RUN.

As opposed to just goofy like most previous artists have done. ••• A lot of artists -- and writers -- share a bad habit. If a character is considered "lame" or "goofy" or any other negative, they tend to present the characters that way. The only place I've ever done that was in SENSATIONAL SHE-HULK, where the point was to use the lamest villains I could find. But anywhere else, my usual approach is to think to myself I'm sure the creators of this character didn't intend him/her to be lame, so what did they intend?

JB, every time you do another Fantastic Four commission I weep. I
dearly love all of your current work with IDW, but the kid in me really
wishes FANTASTIC 4EVER would have worked out. Everybody wants
to make it a superhero book or a family soap opera. While those can
be aspects of it, you were the only one who really gave it the same
voice as the Lee/Kirby days, a science fiction adventure book.
