And a character busting through a window? I tell you, if I had a dime for every time that happened ...

A couple of interesting (i.e. hard to define, perhaps) instances:

(Interesting that on the GENETIX cover, Wolverine's costume is either colored or drawn incorrectly)

I think I preferred Hitch as an AD clone (which may be damning with faint praise).

This thread has given me a new appreciation for the companies' reliance upon "go to" cover design artists like Ed Hannigan, Al Milgrom, Nick Cardy, John Romita, and Gil Kane. Clearly it can be difficult to come up with strong, inventive cover images that provide not only an eye-catching design but also a clear storytelling approach that provides enough intrigue to get the reader to pick up the book to find out what happens "next."

I love a good homage cover as much as the next guy (more perhaps) but when clear swipes (such as the Hitch Genetix cover) make it into print, everyone comes out looking bad.

I think the reason I never grew to appreciate what Brian Hitch (whose talent I
do not question) does is because I still see his work as "not quite Alan
Davis."
