Wallace, I checked and on the splash page it does have a caption that reads, "Cover by Ed Hannigan and Mark Texeira from a layout by Neal Adams." No other information, though, such as it being based on the "Superman" cover. I wonder if the credit on the splash page was a last minute thing?
