Hi JB, How did you come to work with Chris Claremont again on the JLA TENTH CIRCLE arc, and was it a positive experience for you? Thanks!

Mike Carlin asked if I wanted to do something for JLA CLASSIFIED. I said sure, and came up with a story/plot. I fully intended to script it myself, then Carlini asked if I'd mind if he got Chris to do it.Pity he didn't get Terry to ink it.

Do you have a say in who inks your work when you take on a project?
OT - What do you think of Bob Waicek's work on your stuff?

No Kidding! Never have I been so upset at a comicbook as reading that one. It was my chance to see JB draw Superman again. What I got was Jerry Ordway redrawing all of the Superman heads. Jerry's great but that's not what I paid for.
BTW JB, thank you for posting the pencils for these. It was nice to see your original intent.

What I got was Jerry Ordway redrawing all of the Superman heads.•• Compare the inks to the PENCILS. He redrew a lot more than that. But, then, Ordway apparently thinks he draws Superman (and birds) better than Curt Swan, so I should not be surprised he trampled all over mine.

Yeah, I just looked at a side by side comparison of issue 96 page 20. About the only thing he stayed faithful to was your vampire. Superman and Wonder Woman are drastically different.
While Terry Austin would have made the most sense, I really enjoyed Mark Farmer's work on the JLA Classified story. The team of Stern, Byrne and Farmer made that a classic JLA read I go back to.

Interesting comments from you JB. I had always really enjoyed the Byrne-Ordway combination on Fantastic Four (felt like Wood inking Kirby in some strange way). Curious if you felt the same then as now re: his inking?

Just the other day I was thinking it was too bad they didn't get Terry Austin to ink that, if for no other reason than to get the Old Gang back together.

Yeah. They really missed the boat on that one.

I agree. Jerry Ordway is a terrific artist, but he overpowered JB on this series. I was expecting similar results to their pairing on the Fantastic Four.
JB, is there any chance of you working with Terry Austin somewhere down the line on any future projects? I'd love to see you guys collaborate once again.

My disappointment at the inking job done on JLA Tenth Circle was immense, bordering on disgust. At the time, I hadn't been buying comics for a while and was really excited about finding this run. I bought it sight unseen.
When I got home and started reading the wave of disappointment was swift. Yeah--Austin would have done much more justice to the effort. Sigh.
