I've not posted in these parts for a while, but wanted to chime in and say just how much I'm enjoying this series of Paul's. It's really something looking at all of these together.

Both of these look great.  While both are extremely effective and gorgeous overall, as usual, there is some detail (or two) in each piece that really stands out to me.  With Kraven, it's the heavy line of his net, particularly where it passes in front of his left arm and left leg.  With the Ringmaster, it's the texture on the handle of his whip, as well as the way the stars on his coat and pants are treated where the fabric is wrinkled.  Well done.  Seeing these character poses always makes me wish for some sort of "Encyclopedia of Marvel and DC" with an entry illustration for each character by JB.

(Aside to Paul: as an unabashed John Romita Spider-Man fan, I selfishly hope you'll take the series at least through issue #50, because I want to see JB do character shots of the Rhino, the second Vulture and the Shocker.  To say nothing of the Kingpin!)

Paul's commissions are just fantastic. I'd love to see them all lined up and framed on the wall. I bet it'd look great. Kind of like Clint's Marvel Monsters wall.

This collage should be a poster I could buy at a Target.

In full color

Big.

Like 6 feet tall big.

(awesome they are both, but, the Ringmaster is tops)

I like these both. Ringmaster is, indeed, very creepy here. Deeply sinister.

The inking on Kraven -- particularly the face -- looks different to your usual style, JB.  Can't put my finger on it. Great pose.

This series has been really fantastic - looking back at the whole series, you have a real knack for capturing the essence of the characters by their poses, JB.  How the are standing, their expressions - just perfect.

Wow!  Congrats again to Paul.  JB never disappoints!

The Kraven piece is just fantastic but The Ringmaster jumps out to me.  Really amazing.  Close to being my fave of the Spider-Foes so far!

Working on the Kraven piece, I found myself thinking of the number of times Ditko used disembodied eyes as part of the design for costumes. Kraven, Mysterio, Doctor Strange -- arguably, even Spider-Man, since the stylized eyes on his mask have nothing to do with the shape, or even the position really, of Peter Parker's eyes. Unlike most masks, where the eyes are the same size and position as those of the wearer.

One good thing, it turns out, about these being the "last" commissions for 2011: a combination of the time change plus these being fairly quick and easy left me with most of the day with "nothing to do" -- so I laid out pages 6, 7 and 8 of the first issue of AFTERMATH, which will shave about an hour off my start time tomorrow!

When i see all of those pieces laid out together, it makes me want to go back and re-read the entire Lee/Ditko Spider-Man run! Wow!
