A comic book can be composed of hundreds of individual panels, each of which is important to the flow of the story, but sometimes a panel appears that burns itself into the reader's memory, either because it's masterfully drawn or represents a pivotal point in the story or contains a great bit of dialogue or any other reason. I'm wondering what some of everyone's favorite single panels from their years of comics reading are. And yes, splash pages count. A few that come to my mind: Tommy Hanson's mother slaps Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four 285 (John Byrne) Doc Samson punches the Hulk out in Incredible Hulk 314 (John Byrne) Wolverine, covered in sewer muck, in the final panel of X-Men 132 (John Byrne) Peter Parker breaks through the front door because he's worried about Aunt May in Amazing Spider-Man 66 (John Romita) Hawkman slams Superman with his mace in Justice League 200 (Joe Kubert) Stephen Strange, scruffy and beaten, standing on the docks and hearing whispers of the Ancient One for the first time, a panel that simultaneously shows just how far he's fallen and that there might still be hope, in Strange Tales 115 (Steve Ditko) Commisioner Gordon laughing hysterically after Batman has scared away Reeves in Batman 234 (Neal Adams) The splash page of Batman running on the beach in "The Joker's Five-way Revenge" in Batman 251 (Neal Adams) The Spirit striking a match in the doorway of Commissioner Dolan's office in "Sand Saref" (Will Eisner)
