Essential? Maybe not ... but I wouldn't want to live in a
world without Stan Lee.

A writer is absolutely essential. A writer is someone who comes up with the plot, the theme, the setting, the characters, the situations... Whether that person is also the artist or a separate individual is irrelevant. The story needs to be written whether words get put on a page or not.

Mark Haslett - "...and you would never get to anything that addressed what I actually posted."

Your kind of snobishness never realizes when it's being refuted.

What, ho! I see you've dealt with my kind of snobbishness before! Oh snap. Well, if you can't argue the point, get personal.

All my kind of snobbishness wants (and yours too, I'll bet) is to be "refuted" in terms that address what is actually said.

Your quote from my post: "the writer/artist list just seems longer, better and faster to rattle-off than the works by writers and artists who separate the jobs."

In refuting me, you'd have shown how it's easier to rattle-off a list of great writer/artist teams than it is to say "Eisner, Kurtzman, Kirby, Ditko, Miller, Simonson, Byrne, Schultz, Watterson, Trudeau, on and on and on."

You being able to list a bunch of highly regarded work done by writer/artist teams addresses nothing I said.
