The Daiku Maryu from the 1970's anime series GAIKING. I remember having a smaller version of this way back then. ![](uploads/BillMimbu/2011-09-16_233741_GT2_20110805_091.JPG)
Gaiking himself. I can remember the skull body having a gold paint job instead of this yellow one (like the partially viewed Gaiking in the background). ![](uploads/BillMimbu/2011-09-16_234813_GT2_20110805_092.JPG)
A display of vintage tin toys (if members want to see a closer picture of these, just let me know, since at this size the details get a bit fuzzy).

If memory serves correctly, I believe this USS Nautilus with Loon missle (U.S. version of the V-1 Buzz Bomb), was the first plastic injection mold kit to be manufactured and sold in Japan. ![](uploads/BillMimbu/2011-09-17_000307_GT2_20110805_097.JPG)
Now, I know there are some people who will certainly object to having the classic Thunderbirds merchandise in the same display case as the live-action movie versions... ;) ![](uploads/BillMimbu/2011-09-17_000400_GT2_20110805_098.JPG)

Side corrider leading to the Gundam model-centric portion of the museum (and the restrooms). ![](uploads/BillMimbu/2011-09-17_001944_GT2_20110805_100.JPG)
Seig Zeon! A four foot tall MS-06 Zaku mobile suit greets us at the end of the corridor, and at the door to the Gundam exhibit. Once the terrors of the One Year War battlefields, they quickly became cannon-fodder when facing Amuro Ray and the RX-78-2 Gundam.

Message from Yoshiyuki Tomino, Gundam's creator (also known as "Kill 'em All Tomino" for the large number of characters "buying the farm" toward the end of a TV series or movie he's involved with). ![](uploads/BillMimbu/2011-09-17_005156_GT2_20110805_111.JPG)
And back outside in the main lobby, High Grade, High-Grade Universal Century, Master Grade, and Perfect Grade Gundam kits with a framed signature by Yoshiyuki Tomino. It should be noted that the iconic RX-78-2 Gundam was destroyed by the end of the original series, and yet lives on thanks to merchandising... ![](uploads/BillMimbu/2011-09-17_005925_GT2_20110805_112.JPG)

And the Ultraman one, offering "Ultra Cola" (which may have been the Gatorade-like "Giant Monster Lemonade" instead... Which may also explain why we got the creepy Baltan-Seijin Laugh after hearing Ultraman's "Shuwatch!" catchphrase everytime it dispensed a can...).

Leaving the Bandai Museum in a pouring rain (both this day and the preceeding one involved remnants of a typhoon that passed Japan just before we arrived). And now, just for the heck of it.. And with clearing skies ahead, I'll turn things over to Martin for the Ultraman Festival 2011 at Sunshine City in Ikebukuro. ![](uploads/BillMimbu/2011-09-17_013432_GT2_20110805_121.JPG)

Well, since the Bandai Museum coverage apparently seemed to go over like a lead balloon (not helped by my lame attempts at humor I guess), and with this DC New 52 turning out to be such depressing stuff with regards to superheroes... I'll go ahead and do a quick introduction of G-Tour 2's visit to the Ultraman Festival 2011 and let Martin post his photos when he has the chance. August 5th, 2011 ![](uploads/BillMimbu/2011-09-26_183131_GT2_20110805_122.JPG)
Ultraman Festival, or "Ulfes", is an annual Summer festival celebrating the Ultraman franchise, and has been usually held at the Sunshine City mega-shopping complex in Ikebukuro, Tokyo. In addition to exhibits of Ultramen past and present (and their foes), one of the big draws of the festival is a live performance stage where Ultraman and friends make appearances, as well as an Ultraman shop selling all sorts of merchandise, including items exclusive to the festival itself (well, not exactly true, since we found some of these exclusives being sold in the Ultraman Shops on the far west side of Japan in Fukuoka). Before hitting Ulfes, a good majority the G-Tour 2 members hit the Sunshine City restaurant level for lunch, while the less hungry ones raided the Ikebukuro-branch of Toys 'R Us in the lower levels for Ultraman and Godzilla swag.
