Craig where do you get that Morrison would do movies rather than comics? *** http://splashpage.mtv.com/2010/11/10/grant-morrison-sinatoro / There's a bit of tea leaf reading on my part here, but if you have a modern "marquis" comic writer discussing the death of comics (despite comics being more super awesome than ever!) while at the same time developing a film, the writing seems to be on the wall.

I read the article and still believe it's a stretch to say he would prefer to do movies. I could be wrong of course, but I haven't seen anything to the contrary.

Whatta hypocrisy, he's partially responsible of that the so-called "death of comics". He's one of the reasons why I read so few titles nowadays.

"Was Clark faking his personality from infancy until he reached adulthood?" From the 60s to 80s? Kinda... :-) The thing about the "Superman's the real person" bit (or rather "Kal-El") is that it frequently came across that every thing "Clark" did was for the sole purpose of keeping people from discovering he was Superman. Plus all of his friends were also Superman's friends, and they were more likely to see the "true Clark" when hanging with Superman than when they were with Clark.

Saying that movies are a "better" medium than comics is like saying that Broadway plays are a "better" medium than movies. In other words, it makes no sense. Comics do what comics do, movies do what movies do. Comics fail only if they are expected (as is apparently the case with some writers) to be what they are not.

I dont think he means that the movies are making better superhero stories. I believe the idea is that movies are more successful in terms of spreading the idea, in other words more people see them than the comics.

In 1938 we don't know much about his past life, just that he already had powers as a baby. And later it was established that he was Superboy (Siegel's idea, and before that, Superbaby) so Clark Kent was always supposed to be a disguise. Even his parents frequently called him Superboy. And of course, it fits with the "look behind my glasses" theme Siegel was going for. Superman pining for Krypton and thinking of himself as Kryptonian was an addition that came later but I like that.

No, from 1938 to the 80s. I cannot see how anyone could read the Siegel/Shuster stories and come to another conclusion.

Do you realize that after the promo sneak peek in X-MEN 94, Marvel made virtually no mention of XHY again until something like the ninth issue? Unbelievable! _________________________________ I did not know that. It always amazes me that the Big 2 seem to promote some books more than others.

I can't not think of Superman as a super-powered... mid-Western American, no matter what his origin. I just don't see him primarily as a super-powered visitor from another planet. He'd have much more in common with Bruce Wayne than J'onn J'onzz. Apart from Clark's super-powers, for me Ma and Pa Kent and the earth almost wholly define who he is, even if his biological parents and birth-planet significantly inform who he is.
