"...without color to define planes and distinguish different materials and areas of costume design, I must turn to texture. It's a challenge I very much enjoy"

Well, you do an amazing job of it and I know painfully well how difficult it is to pull off, in any drawing medium.

Please provide location of where this piece is going so I can stand outside their house and plead them to let me see this great work of art in person!

JB: Incidentally, the "new" way is somewhat nerve-racking. Much like my
nighttime cityscapes, no matter how many times I do it, I am not entirely
convinced it's gonna work until I'm done!

I whole-heartedly adore the "new" way -- it seems to take further the
technique that was showing up in Doom's armor around the time of
Doom's solo FF story many moons ago. That was my favorite version of
Doom at the time. This "new" version is a similar idea done with what
feels to me like more control (?). It feels so right for Doom.

I don't believe I've commented on a commission before, not because they weren't great but because they were what I expect from JB but this one... wow.  No offense meant to you, JB, but I wish the artist who drew this piece was around to draw those issues of X-men, FF, Superman, etc.  Or even drawing them now.  This is simply an amazing piece and I am blown away.

Curious. What about this drawing tells you that?
--------------------------------

It looks like Johnny is "flaming on", burning through some sort of line(rope?), Reed has lines across his mid-section, Ben does too and Sue is still wrapped in them while Batman just has the one that he's pulling on.  Doesn't look like he was recently wrapped up.

Edit:  ohhhh.  Is that Venom spit?  I'm just not familiar with that character and I was thinking he was more of a mauler with his claws and strength.  Didn't consider it was some kind of spider "fluid".

Well, when he was just Spider-Man's black costume, he shot webbing from the back of his hand.

…you knew exactly where to put Doom when the customer asked for him fighting alongside Venom…

••

Not actually what the request says.

True enough.  But I stand by the compliment nonetheless.

I love your take on Venom, JB.  I don't think I've ever seen another artist draw him that way....but they should!

I'm with you JB, can't see Doom doing anything other than using
Venom for his own needs.
