There's and old riddle about an archeologist who unearths a stone block with an iron ring mounted on the top, and what appears to be a message in an unknown language on the side:

TOTI

EHORS

ESTO

Just now I received an email from the gallery where I get my framing done. It was announcing a show by a local landscape artist, and due to a glitch in formatting the title of the show read as

CLOU

DSCA

PES

(Those of you who immediately "decode" these messages, please refrain from posting your solutions for a while, to give others a chance to figure 'em out.)

Got it, but refraining.

I've studied Ancient Greek inscriptions that have neither punctuation nor spacing... and run first left to right until the end of the stone and then continue on the line below right to left, following the same modus until the end. Challenging!

The second jumped right out at me, but the first one confused me for a while.

Yeah, I think the first may have appeared in retro adventure classic,
Zork.

The second one came to me immediately, the first one took me a few minutes.

I quickly got the first one, and that helped me figure out the second.
