In a very real way, I feel like this book packaged a part of my childhood! It made me incredibly happy while flipping through it. These stories were a big influence on me becoming a visual storyteller.

Thanks JB!

Jesus Christ--the same production problems as the third Visionary trade, dropped pages, the cliffhanger ending...I don't have my copy yet but I'm starting to worry I'm going to regret ordering the damn thing.

Which page got left out, Jose?

That's the one I got Nathan. I flipped through it briefly and it looked good.

And just one more thing. Apparently, one page was ommited from issue # 242 when the story was collected on paperback as "The Trial of Galactus", and, if we are to believe the editorial text, this was done for pacing purposes, to "give the story a seamless flow".

••

A lot more than one page was left out of "The Trial of Galactus". I edited a couple of YEARS worth of issues to build that trade paperback, leaving out everything that was not directly part of the story -- which was a lot, since quite a bit of the Galactus story ran as subplots, building to a concluding arc.

Perhaps you are misremembering the introduction I wrote, in which I noted that the exercise worked so well that one page ended with Sue walking down a flight of stairs in the Baxter Building, and the next pages (from several issues later) began with her walking down a flight of stairs in the Baxter Building.

So, by all mean, believe the "editorial text", since the editor in question was ME!

Was that common practice, JB? To let the creators "edit" the TPBs? That's a pretty cool idea, methinks.

Oh, sorry for the misunderstanding, Mr. Byrne. I never owned that paperback.

Actually, I was referring to the editorial text provided as explanation on the Omnibus, where they took page 18 of issue # 242 out of its natural place and put it at the back of the book.

And since we are so fortunate to have you around, I don't know if you caught my question from my first post on this thread:

Why line reproduction looks so much worse (it looks like some shoddy, xerox copy on same pages) for issues 255-257? I seem to remember it was the same on the "Visionaries" paperback, so this must trace back to the source materials. While I own the original monthlies, I don't have them with me to compare, but, if memory serves me, these were not published during the much dreaded "flexographic" phase of Marvel, so why is there no better printing film or plates for these issues?

That big white spot next to Stan Lee seems to be missing something. Was Jack Kirby supposed to be in that spot?

In that white spot on #236 was a big circle with the words SPECIAL TRIPLE-
SIZED ISSUE OF THE WORLD'S GREATEST COMIC MAGAZINE!

You're right, Joe: both covers are terrific. I hadn't seen the artwork on the
direct market version in quite some time, and I've always liked the family
feel of that particular piece.
