My only concern is Marvel's tendency to delay (or cancel) the second volume. Ending Uncanny X-men vol1 Omnibus right in the middle of the Dark Phoenix saga is frustrating... 5 years later, no volume 2. I sure wish they could have squeezed in the last couple Dark Phoenix issues in there!

I share your concern, Dan -- look at how long it took for them to put out Alpha Flight Classic Vol. 2.
Another issue with the shift in content on the Byrne FF Omnibus: it means Vol. 2 will begin with Alpha Flight #4! Weird.
Maybe they could kick off Omnibus Volume 2 with What If #36 instead? It would be a nice counterpart to Ben's flashback to the team's origin in FF #261.

It's strange the no volume 2 because this month it appears a Spanish version of volume 2 (volume 1 was published some months ago). Although I don't know the additional material it can include (unused art, pencilled pages,...).

They generally only release an Omnibus with a movie - I say generally because clearly the Byrne FF Omnibus isn't so, and neither is the Jim Lee X-Men Omnibus. However, both Byrne at IDW and Lee at DC have been making waves lately, so Marvel is likely just cashing in on the current name recognition.
This year, for X-Men First Class, they released the second X-Men Omnibus from the 60s. I suppose the next X-film will have the second Uncanny volume attached. The first Spider-Man Omnibus came out in 07 for Spider-Man 3 - the second one is out next year for the reboot. We got Thor and Captain America Omnibuses this year, and next year we get an Avengers. And so on...

Are the Omnibus series as large as DC's Absolute series 11x17?

*******
No, they're oversized but they aren't that big.

I love oversized comics. I know they're hard to store and such, but it's fun to see the art so large!

I agree. It's the actual size pencilers draw comics. What an exhilarating discovery to see and I think they're worth it. I wish Marvel would produce similar sizes for their Omnibus comics.

I just got an email that my copy has shipped and is expected to arrive Thursday. I preordered this several months ago and locked in at the preorder price of $59.70. I wonder if Amazon might have mistakenly thought this was part of DC's relaunch, as it was a 52% discount from the cover price of $125.00!

this means I'll have my name in a book with John Byrne!
I got to experience this a few years back. Marvel put out a digest version of holiday stories, so the "Moleman's Christmas" story I co-wrote with my wife was packaged with X-Men #143, one of my favorite single issues. So cool.
