Yes. 10 years is more like it.

And yet... is it that they were given more freedom or is it that they were pushed to do "something diffferent", no matter the price or logic.

I'll agree that Grant Morrison was given more freedom. Some other big selling names too.

But mostly i'ld say that  the X-books or Spider-man books are very editor driven.

Oh no. It's giant boyish figured kris-knife wielding lady punk! And she shaved her pits! And her ear itches. And she has to tell the truth for the moment. And the Nagel poster look is coming back!

I sure hope Wonder Woman has enough lines on her boots to get out of this one!

Someday, someone's going to have to do a formal count. Has the GL Corps suffered more pointless "GiantStoryLine" mass slaughters, or have the Amazons? Which has been destroyed more often, the Corps or Paradise Island? For extra bonus points, compare both to the number of times Marvel's Asgard has fallen and the number of Asgardians who've been butchered to make a cool battlefield visual.

How is it an art team needs to be replaced by issue #2?
With all the creator related late/MIA issues of the past
decade or so, is DC STILL launching new titles without the
first handful of issues "in the drawer"?

Trevor, DC wanted 3 issues completed by August 31st.  One can always assume those creators that are getting replaced were not able to do it even though they had plenty of time to do them.

Kevin, if you believe some of the rumors, not everyone had "plenty of time to do them."

I was considering the JLA by Johns and Lee... then the solicits came out for issue #2 in October, and it's a Batman vs. Superman fight. Blech.

They've already lost me and the series hasn't even started yet.

Dave, even if they got the work a few days before the announcements, they still had plenty of time to get 3 issues done.  They were announced end of May.

Besides, I think, at the absolute latest, the creative teams knew by May 1st.  (This is just a guess on my part.)  Giving them 4 months lead time.  Also, DC already had covers ready to go for the announcements.  Most of them drawn by interior artist(s).   I think the "rumors" are put out there to give some built-in excuses to be late, but DC is apparently very serious about it now.  (Took them long enough.....)
