The Crotch Arrow. What an enemy he'd make for Green Arrow! I don't mind the Superman costume redesign so much. He could probably use a bit more freedom in his choice of costumes, as Batman can pretty much wear anything with a stylized bat on it without inciting outrage throughout fandom. I think it's funny (and maybe indicative) that the Justice League cartoon (later Justice League Unlimited) was more gender-balanced in its 'Big 7' than the latest reboot is. Also, Hawkgirl (or anyone with a Hawk costume) looks awesome, and should be in every superteam because of that visual awesomeness. Cyborg in the JLA...hey, just like Smallville! Cheers, Jon

Bryan (Ultimates) Hitch of all people tweeted something along those lines in the past week. He said that his own kids didn't like his work and went on that Pixar and Dream Works Animation have been doing good jobs making stuff that both kids and adults could enjoy. He finished up by saying he that in light of that he might have to rethink his own work.========= There is a real potential negative in this. On another board I got into a discussion that the reason for what he said is not what you think. It is that kids don't like line art, or rather they find it boring and old and will always choose computer generated images over it. His reason that is why no old style animated movie, like the last Disney movie, is pulling the audience of Pixar and DW. And the only reason TV hasn't completely dropped line art is the cost. Applied this to comic artists and he might find out his kids aren't attracted to his work because he did it with pen and paper. We may see the end of line art as the dominate comic book art style for this generation.

I too find Bryan HItch's art boring. I wish these guys would stop finding fault with everything except their own storytelling.

I hate Jim Lee's costume designs. They scream "dated" the minute they're released.

Joe Z, ha it is funny how tastes run differently; you find Bryan Hitch's work boring, I find his art as one of the most visually exciting artwork out there, especially his sci-fi and wars. I can look at his work for hour and come back to it tommorow. (Not saying everything he does is perfect.)If I had a choice for any artist to draw a book for me, he'd be in my top five choices (including Byrne, Perez, Davis, and Jimenez)

I think some of Hitch's problems stem from the godawful full process colouring he got on Fantastic Four, especially the first few issues, causing everything to be on one plane. There are entire pages of those early issues that I can't follow at all...and I've read a bloody awful lot of comics! I found Hitch to be a competent Neal Adams clone in his work for The Authority and The Ultimates, derivative but stronger in terms of anatomy and lay-out than, say, Mike Grell or Jim Starlin was at a similar stage in their careers. He hasn't progressed since then, however. Full-process colouring as it seems to be deployed by most colourists makes that crazy-ass Flexographic colouring of the mid-1980's look good. Well, almost good. Well, abysmal but bright. Cheers, Jon

Best colors on Hitch were done when he was on the JLA, then Authority.

I know the Flash has always had yellow boots (sometimes with little wings on them) but Techno-COWBOY boots?)
Wonder Woman's is red and black with silver trim leads me to think "who's that?" They might as well get rid of the tiara and lasso if they need to change that much. Hell just give her a transparent jet pack and a halberd with a machine gun built into it or whatever.
Batman has never looked more like an action figure.
Superman looks like he's Mon -El trying to pass for Superman while Superman is away.
Blech.

Laura DePuy (aka Laura Martin) seems to have coloured all Hitch's JLA stuff, and she's usually pretty good. He also had Paul Neary inking him on Heaven's Ladder, which always helps. Cheers, Jon

I recognize Black Canary, but who are the two other two women in the "background" of that JLA shot? Cyborg is such an obvious token. I wish they'd used Vixen instead. I know they put her on the JLI team (and speaking of bad redesigns: check out Booster Gold and Rocket Red), but I think she'd be more appropriate here because of her history with the league. Cyborg seems completely random, and has never interested me as a character.

The new Element Woman, and Mera. And well, Cyborg was on Superfriends, so now he gets to be on the JLA for real. I'm pretty sure that's the operative logic here.
