I don't wanna give any spoilers away, but his "confrontation" with the uhm, organization, at the end of that preview was really fun and flippant in a way I would not have expected from Superman. I am also suprised that he has such early access to his arsenal of powers.

Looks like from the linked graph, Janette Kahn, Infantino's "successor", sucked. Also, it doesn't appear CRISIS did much of anything for DC in 1985, which surprises me. I thought CRISIS was more impacting, but I think it was just more impacting to me because it was my first exposure to the totality of DC Comics' universe.

Well, essentially first and last exposure, since DC stopped publishing stories with the characters in CRISIS that I was drawn to. I have to admit, I just can't believe anyone at DC at the time couldn't see that CRISIS wasn't necessary, but good art and storytelling would seal the deal, notably by the Wolfmans/Perezs of the world.

Keith Giffen isn't a "kissass." He just knows what side his bread's buttered on. He's shrewd that way, imo.

If he was shrewd, would he be working on titles like "Doom Patrol", "Outsiders" and now "OMAC"? Titles that tend to last a year, if that?

Those titles may be short lived, but he seems like a creator who prefers books that offer him some freedom.

Giffen's Doom Patrol, as written, was an excretory paen to everything Grant Morrison, with barely a whisper to Drake/Premiani/Kupperberg/Byrne.

Giffen's Outsiders, written by Dan DiDiot. Nuff said.

Giffen's OMAC, ditto. If he's taking DiDiot seriously, or being forced to take that worm seriously, then Giffen is already compromised.

I mean, wouldn't you think Giffen, with his career, would be in a better position than propping up a veritable King Kissass like DiDiot? I know Giffen didn't make that Frank Miller/John Byrne money back when, but surely he's well off enough to say No Thanks to DC's scraps?

And saying this, I'd be absolutely ecstatic for Giffen to be an artist on ANY comic NOT written by some incompetent. Why isn't Giffen a working artist? His writing is complete drivel. His art, if he could get himself back to steady production, is still ten times better than 80 percent of his comtemporaries.

I think Lars is right. He's attracted to offbeat, off the main track characters that allows him the freedom to do what he wants. He also seems to be on good terms with DiDio which allows him to pick the books he wants.

So you're adding Precognition to your mental powers Chad? Should we call you Professor C? Now, I dont have high hopes for the Didio/Giffen OMAC title, but I'm willing to wait till the book comes out before I pass judgement. At least, it'll be fun to look at.

Its always funny to hear some fans gnashing their teeth and projecting their own notions/predjuices on to why a particular creater does what they do. The idea that the creator in question might actual do it because they wanted to or thought it was a good concept is alien to these fans. It's doubly funny when it happens on a site devoted to an artist who own work has been the subject of the same sort of unfounded rumor, speculation and innuendo.

Seriously?  You're going down that road....?

I don't like his writing either, but that's just being crass.

I love the "Kirby" style of Giffen. He might not be loved by everyone, given his extreme alteration of many heroes histories back in the 80's and 90's -LOSH, Dr. Fate, Blue Beetle, Booster Gold, etc-, but I think he has made a very decent work lately as a penciller.

I'll try this new O.M.A.C. version -keeping in mind this is not the original-.

No really. DiDio is representative of everything wrong with anything to do with a creative impulse. He's the Toad. He's Toht from RAIDERS. I'd guess most of anyone who has seen the guy in "action" during cons and interviews can only marvel at how deep inside other men's a**es a man can survive.

I think anyone who thinks Giffen "chooses" to do anything at DC is naive at best. Unless someone can find evidence to the contrary, to state that Giffen is an old legend wandering around the DC offices picking his projects like he's plucking just-ripe oranges.

If that is the case, more power to him. It doesn't change the fact that his Doom Patrol was an awful exercise in creative "control."

The one issue Giffen drew himself was bad too, writer-wise, but it was titanically better than the rest of the series. A series with art that could only nicely be called "uneven." Expected, with two pencillers mangling the book.

How about you find evidence to support your position? Obviously you don't like Giffen's work as a writer. I don't either, but I'm not going to disaparage the man because of that.
