I hadn't subscribed to a comic book series since I was a kid, and I'm about to turn fifty, but I did pick up a sub for Billy Batson and the Magic of Shazam once Mike Norton started on the title. His work on that book had a nice Mike Parobeck kinda vibe and Billy Batson was one of the better Captain Marvel efforts that DC has fielded. Of course, the series was cancelled before my sub ran its course and I had the remainder of the issues transferred over to Teen Titans specifically for the Nicola Scott art. I enjoyed her work alot and the book wasn't too bad of a read, even though I struggled with the modern era makeup of the team. So although I had made the same decision as Brad, to simply walk away from the nuDCU, hearing that Nicola will be doing a JSA series is the first bit of news that may entice me to sample one of their relaunched books. Knowing that it will be set on Earth 2 is heartening as well, BUT DiDio mentioning that they were hammering out the characters as late as the day before the announcement was even made doesn't bode very well. Would somebody please slip Dan a suitable pill so he that can just mentally bake out for a few years?

Well my older brother, a lapsed comic book reader and the person primarily responsible for me reading them, is jumping back in with the New 52. DC is/was running a subscription special 5 subs for the price of 4 and he couldn't resist. I think he ended up with: -Superman -Action Comics -JLA -Green Arrow -Flash

I'll be very curious to see how sales do over the long haul.

I wouldn't be too concerned about that, Chuck. The new JSA title isn't part of the 52 relaunch in September - heck, it may not even come out until next year. So if they're still working on it NOW, this moment, it's not like they're in any rush to get it out the door by next week!

Can they use 4th World characters for this (and any future) Earth-2 books, are did they completely lose that fight? Well, I cannot find anything on it now, but I could have sworn that I read something around the time of Final Crisis about DC losing rights to use Apokolips and other 4th Worlders? Did I dream this?

Considering that the reboot/relaunch is about to begin, could a helpful mod change the title for me to "DC relaunch discussion thread"? Thanks!

Craig I'm pretty sure they still have the rights since this has been announced.DC was talking about not using the 4th World characters for awhile post-Final Crisis. I think the rationale was that they had such a focus on those characters building up to and during Final Crisis that I might be a good idea to back off them for awhile.

Ok, wow. Thanks Adam. I don't know how I hallucinated that. Maybe the Kirby Estate lawsuit against Marvel news confounded with DC mentions of those characters... throw some bad sushi in the mix, blamo, complete cognitive chaos. Wait a minute... so Batman RIP happened to Bruce, but not to Darkseid? Mind = blown. Then again, I guess we do not know that RIP happened until we find out for sure about Nightwing as Batman or not, etc.

I heard an interview with Jim Lee and Geof Johns last week on the Sirius/XM radio show Geek Time on the Howard Stern Channel. Johns let it out of the bag that Darkseid would be the first villian for the Justice League. He said he wanted the most powerful villian around to be the reason you needed to get all those super-heroes together.

Craig the first story arc in JLA takes place "Five Years Ago" so this is a Pre-Batman RIP Darkseid I assume.

As a child I never found the idea of multiple earths confusing. It was the status quo when I entered and it was just another difference between DC & Marvel. DC for some reason assumed that multiple earths were confusing. I don't know where that idea started. Either way I'm glad to see and E2 JSA book whenever it starts. I don't know if it'll be WW II, but I'm guessing it'll be either shortly after the war (as mentioned above) or something modern. I just hope they use E2 villains and not simply alternate versions of established E1 villains.
While I greatly disliked Final Crisis, I'm still a fan of Darkseid. I hope Johns can give him the presence that he commanded in the LSH Great Darkness. If this is going to be the first encounter between Darkseid and the JLA heroes then he should be treated as both awsome and fearsome.
