My hope for the JSA/Earth 2 is that there will be--or will have been--Golden Age-era versions of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman.

First, let me start by saying that I was born in the 60's, started reading comics as a kid and started collecting them in my early teans. I was there for the originaI "Crisis" in the 80's and haven't bought a comic since the early 90's, I have tried to catch up over the years as to what has been going on going on (both Marvel and DC) and I can't believe what DC is doing! I've mentioned this before in other threads, but these type of marketing decisions only sours me in wanting to collect their books. Their new tag line should be "DC Comics: Where the Only Thing Constant is Change!". How do they expect readers to stay on board when they now have a history of changing all the time? Do I think some of the New 52 titles and images look nice, yes, but that's not enough for me to jump back on. Why should I? They're only going to change things again. A couple of humorous side thoughts: -In another thread about the original Spider-Man/Superman team up it was mentioned that there was no need to explain how the two could meet, they just did. However, I started thinking, if this were the case then the Marvel characters have GOT to be confused when they have been meeting the DC characters over the years, when these meetings take place after different DC reboots (since Marvel has basically continued keeping their history in one piece, though taking liberty with Mephisto and changing Spider-Man's history at a point). -Now, going off this thought, if Marvel and DC do another Spider-Man/Superman team up based on the New DC and the Mephisto situation, they can have Peter and Clark meet in a singles club!

JSA on Earth 2 is good news. Not all that confident in Robinson (no relation). I was sort of excited about the New Krypton story from a year or two ago but found it meh. In fact, I don't think I even finished picking it up. This is a bit of a tangent, but I did just discover that Chaykin is doing an Avengers 1959 mini this fall, which, arguably, is a along the same vein as the JSA. I would love to see Marvel do more pre-1964 (character era, not actual year) stories: Post WWII Cap & Invaders, Pre-Avengers/ F4. http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=32907

If this E2 JSA is the same as shown in the JSA annual from a few years ago, then we know a few things. Their Superman and Powergirl are M.I.A. Also they had a Robin and Huntress so their Batman is either retired or passed away. I don't recall if he was mentioned in that story. There was a Fury, implying a previous Wonder Woman. Of course I don't know what era these new stories will take place nor if it's even the same E2 from that story.

So now they are retconning that the original Avengers were not the original Avengers? Oh brother! *** I would have to go back and re-read the New Avengers issues this came out of, but IIRC, they never are officially called Avengers. They are simply referred to as such in a 4th wall way for the audience, and this mini is likely to bank on the Avengers name. Clearly, Invaders 1959, or Howling Commandoes, etc, would be more appropriate. If the goal is to actually supplant the actual 1964 Avenger roster with Fury and these proto-Avengers, I'll be mightily disappointed. Gyah! Yeah, I just reread the article and they are formally called, "Avengers Initiative." So much for that... every time I think they are about to do something I will really enjoy, there is always some wrinkle. This title might be better off in the Ultimates lines. Or maybe I should pitch Fantastic Four 1959, with Timely characters from the 50s! Jim Hammond (obviously), Whizzer, Golden Girl & Rockman.

That JSA Annual was one of my favorite issues of John's run. It kinda felt like the Justice Society I remembered as a kid (the Levitz/Staton era) with a modern twist.
That being said, won't new readers be confused by 'Earth 2'? Isn't that what got DC into trouble in the first place?

Isn't that what got DC into trouble in the first place? ************************************ No, what got them in trouble in the first place was assuming readers were confused when they weren't. I personally had NO problems following the multiple Earths. And all DC has to do is add a little "Earth-2" logo on the book to differentiate it from the regular DCU titles. It's not a big deal in the least.

Very true! Even as a child, I understood the concept of different Earths and universes when it came to the characters that I loved. If Spider-Man and Batman weren't on the same Earth, it wasn't that different a concept to think there could be Batman and another Batman on two different Earths too!

As much as I would love a WWII JSA book, I think they need to do something a tad different. Perhaps the JSA right after the end of WWII. Start the series with Christmas of 1945 and go on from there.

If Spider-Man and Batman weren't on the same Earth, it wasn't that different a concept to think there could be Batman and another Batman on two different Earths too! ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------- Yes!! I have yet to understand what is so confusing about multiple Earths. When Crisis came out, I was 15, and I said to a friend, "If DC thinks that Earths 2 through whatever are confusing to new readers, then why not just cancel All-Star Squadron and Infinity Inc. and stop visiting Earth-2 all the time? Why blow everything up?". When we later learned that we were getting re-booted heroes, then COIE made more sense....until we started getting multiple re-boots of individual characters, while other characters stuck with their first re-boot.....and perhaps worst of all was the obsessive need of nearly every writer to show us the New, Post-Crisis Version (TM) of every goshdamned character and concept from the Golden and Silver Ages. I think the exact moment that DC lost me was Zero Hour. We had JUST FINISHED with a line-wide re-boot, and already we needed a line-wide tweak/semi-re-boot? I'm out! There's no coherence, just a bunch of lazy writers j***ing themselves off. Ugh.
