From what I've read, stores are offering discounts on purchasing all 52 issues, which may explain the inflated numbers. A friend of mine who works in a comic shop was glad someone came in 'off the street' and ordered 10 copies of Action Comics 1. It looks like speculators may be creeping back in before comics die out completely
----------
The speculators still show back up every now and then. Death of Captain America sold like 300,000 copies and the Obama Spidey issue sold over half a mil.

***********
DC and Marvel are reaching out and trying to draw in and create new speculators. That's bad. They've gotten stuck in a cycle like a person who keeps getting cash advances before their paychecks and can never catch up. One even after another to spike sales. It's all smoke and mirrors.

The real test to this experiment is how well these books are selling 6 months from now.

Half of them will already be rebooted to new #1 issues. Or some mega-cross-company-stunt crossover will be happening to inflate sales. It never ends.

Agreed. I don't see many titles lasting past 12 issues.

At DCCOMICS.com they don't have any of their new series listed past third issues that come out in November. For those keeping track, that's three months away...

I am all for beating up DC for their poor marketing, but criticizing them for their future solicitations is pretty weak. Traditionally, solicits are 2 months in advance...not sure there's anything to more to it that needs to be read into.

"Speaking of sales, how badly did the direct market affect sales? Take a peek: "Wait, am I reading this chart right - 1985's Crisis caused a sizable drop in overall DC sales, which didn't even completely recover during the next 2 post-Crisis years??

I wish that list went into the 90s. That would be really interesting to see.

I can tell you for a fact, I've been using DCcomics.com for years now as one way of finding out what comics are coming in the future that might interest me and up until very recently they had detailed solicitations up to six months in advance. They still show lots of trades and collections coming out every month all the way to next summer...but none of the their monthly issues. Looks suspicious to me.
