The story did not acknowledge that Captain Thunder was a Captain Marvel doppleganger.

Going back to the Flashpoint Captain Thunder, it's worth pointing out that Geoff Johns is riffing off the original concept for Captain Marvel which was going to have a superpowered team of heroes, each with a unique power. Fawcett decided that was too unwieldy and merged them all into a single hero.

Sometimes I think DC only bought the rights to the Charlton, Quality, and Fawcett lines so they could torment them for eternity in the darkest deepest oubliettes of their haunted citadel.

That Superman issue with Captain Thunder was said to be testing the waters for DC to do a Captain Marvel comic which of course became the first Shazam series.

*Edited to add: After having read that, I checked and discovered that the Shazam comic pre-dates that Superman issue, so I don't know what Captain Thunder was about.

So Action Comics 2 is going to be drawn by a fill in artist. We've reached a point in comic book art where the biggest book in the relaunch that DC is counting on to save the comic book industry can only make it one issue before a fill in artist is needed (I'd imagine with a lot of lead time as well). Jim Lee doesn't even need a fill in artist yet.

Oh well, at least Brent Anderson is the fill in, which means it's probably an improvement.

How could anyone need a fill-in for the second issue? It's August. The second issue has about another month to get finished before it has to be off to the printers for an October release... doesn't it?

DC says that they want to have each of the New 52 shipping consistently every single month: first-week books to be released the first week of every month, second-week books in the second, etc.  A schedule like that doesn't leave room for doubt when soliciting books, so I'm guessing that some artists are finding themselves with shorter lead times than they've had in the past.

This whole DC reboot reminds me of a scene from CHEERS:

Sam and Diane are arguing, and Sam says something like, "The opposite of love is hate". Diane corrects him and says, "No, the opposite of love is APATHY."

Sam replies "Whatever."

It's a good thing she has vents on her gloves. Otherwise they might over heat or something.

"Hmm. Now that I can walk again, I guess I'll go beat the living fuck out of Nightwing. "

Just read my copy of DC RETROACTIVE: BATMAN THE 80s and after seeing the house ads for all the new DC titles and relaunches I can only say this: they are all jarringly ugly.
