Chad, you have got this down! Nicely done.

I think they're saving the poor, misunderstood hottie cheerleader for their "Sisterhood of the Travelling Hotpants" version of Mary Marvel, alongside the super-talented but often-ignored unattractive girl, the outwardly super-capable brunette who hides her inner lack of self-confidence, the happy-seeming soulful bubblehead whose upbeat demeanor masks a deep sensitivity, and the angry dark-skinned girl whose rage against injustice is really the heart and soul of the team.

I wonder who the six individuals who make up the Composite-Hoppy, the Marvel Bunny can be... Rescued lab-animals, perhaps...?

DC's owned by WB - one of them might be Bugs!

Looks like we've got an Asian invalid for natch epic sympathy who has never kissed a girl, a greasy white punk on dope probably with a Polish/Italian surname and rage issues, a white hippie teen from a privaleged background who resents her parents for being Tea D-Baggers, the obligatory fat kid from the broken home who dreams of being a baseball player, the black/Hispanic girl most likely with an older brother in a street gang, and the Bruce Banner straitlaced computer expert/nerd. Unless of course the computer hacker is the Asian (more likely) and the Bruce Banner kid a Doogie Houser knockoff who dreams of being a doctor to help the poor but has to put his dreams on hold to be one-6th of Captain Thunder.

************************************************************ ****************

So close. The "invalid" would be Freddie Freeman ( You know Captain Marvel, Jr).  Who's always been handicapped. He's the tough slick street kid not the never been kissed type.  The "hippy chick" ( Was it the sandles?) is Mary Batson/Bromfield (aka Mary Marvel). No sign of her parents, Tea D-bag otherwise. The "greaser" is Billy Batson (Captain Marvel). Sorry English surname and dope free.. Its the fat kid who is Hispanic. Other than the hat, no mention baseball.   The other girl is black, no mention of any brother, seems to be an airhead type though. Good call on the Nerd/Geek being Asian though. They even saddled him with the name "Eugene", but made him the jerk rather than the "straight lace".  Straightlace, seems to be Billys role.

Thought it was an interesting twist on the Marvel Family mythos. And since there is a history of shared power there (Mary, Billy, Freddy, the Lts.Marvel) it actually makes sense. Even has a "Kirby Kid Gang" feel about it. All the kids are orphan BTW and live in a foster home.Since there's no way Marvel will ever okay "Captain Marvel" on the cover of a DC book, I hope the name "Captain Thunder" makes it to the New DCU.

The Captain Thunder fiasco is a great idea... for a new superhero. Exploding the Captain marvel character isn't the way to go about it at all. That's just too bad. Plus I'm not clear how six kids fell into the Tiger cage at the zoo anyways, much less an intelligent one. Forget it, I don't want to get sucked in.

The age-old question about why Batman fits in the JLA with so many super-powered/augmented team members is that their powers make them special, Batman is a premier tactician/detective with an incomparable human physique and physical talents. And toys. Lots of nice toys.

Anyone reminded of Psi-Force from Marvel's New Universe?

The thing is, in old days, all heroes could do everything, so Batman
wasn't all that unique. Everyone was the best of the best.

But it is funny that you don't hear those comments as often about
Green Arrow, Hawkman, and several other JSAers/JLAers who are just
normal men with a gimmick.

At least they are calling him "Captain Thunder"  so we can comfort ourselves by saying "That isn't Captain Marvel".

Didn't DC once have a Captain Thunder who was a pseudo-Captain
Marvel?

I'm actually surprised that DC never did a story where Captain Marvel met Captain Thunder, could have been an Earth-S/Earth-T crossover.

I'm trying to decipher the creative thinking that went into such a story.  Did it acknowledge that Captain Thunder was a Captain Marvel doppleganger within the comic?  'Cause otherwise, it seems like the guys at DC decided to have a laugh taunting those Big Red Cheese fans out there.
