Take a look at the August solicits. Nearly every single DCU title is a "finale" or appears to be a stand alone story. Flashpoint #5 also appears to be the only DC Comic to be published on August 31st.I strongly suspect that the week following Flashpoint #5 we will have a brand new DCU. It's getting rebooted. Maybe not 100%, but it's being rebooted. The DCU we currently know will no longer exist after August 31st.As I said elsewhere, DC is doing exactly what they should have done at the end of CoIE #12. A near total reboot.People will bitch. People will complain. But people will be talking. And people will be buying out of curiosity.As far as I'm concerned, this is VERY GOOD thing. DC could be shooting themselves in the foot over this or it could be a huge win for them. Either way, I'm excited to see what we get! Edited to change thread title~Matt

Going through the Marvel Previews magazine the other day I was annoyed that everything was event related. Very few stand alone books(it seemed). I know I'm tired of every character being in every book.

They slightly alter origin stories or "add more" to the character's backstory, but usually in terms of some sort of "retcon". The closet DC has come to a line-wide reboot is after CoIE. And that's when JB took over Superman and George Perez took over Wonder Woman. Granted, they went down to "1 Earth", but that was it. They compacted all of the DC history there and it's been overloaded. I want to see if they actually have "cajones" do it, to really do a total reboot with a brand new continuity that is complete clean slate. I'm ready for it!

Same old story, over and over again. The only solution is to cut the crap and just tell stories. You know, the way that worked just fine for decades!

I don't see this as much of anything really. Still the same upper level people making decisions, still the same creators under contract, still the same stale event, etc. Nothing will really change. It will still be the same convoluted DCU.
I hate to sound like a downer but recent history has shown us that real change isn't going to happen with either company.
This may in fact reduce my DC monthlies down to 0. They have been working hard to get there over the years and they may just have succeeded.

Why is it that I get a case of mild depression whenever I ponder the topic of comics? Superhero comics have turned into a nightmare that doesn't end, and it will take more than just a line-wide reboot to bring us out of it.

I wouldn't mind if they did reboot the whole thing. Rebooting doesn't make the older stories any less great , but I'll believe it if I see it.
I'd like them to keep to the core characters too and leave the clones, retreads and what not alone. I don't think they have the discipline to do it though.

The closet DC has come to a line-wide reboot is after CoIE.---- What were Zero Hour and Infinite Crisis/One Year Later? I can see a whole new slew of #1s, post-Flashpoint, but I don't see DC rebooting the line. Especially since they spent the last five years resurrecting parts of the Silver Age and the 80s.
