MARVEL TEAM-UP #4 with the original team (minus the Beast) sans
costumes or uniforms was my first time "meeting" the X-Men.

I don't remember the issue number but it was a Claremont-Byrne-
Austin story and immediately followed the Proteus encounter. So the
team would've included Cyclops, Nightcrawler, Storm, Wolverine,
Colossus, Phoenix and the Professor.

I'm looking forward to seeing Justice League and Avengers versions of this question, too.

X-Force, Extreme Justice and Force Works, not so much.

I think I must have first stumbled across the original team them when I was a small child in some kind of English reprint.

The first specific time I remember meeting them again was in Secret Wars, so Cyclops, Storm, Colossus, NIghtcrawler, Rogue, Professor X, Wolverine (and Lockheed, but no Kitty!).

This does raise the question: what on earth was Lockheed ever doing in Uncanny X-Men? And why was Kitty left out of Secret Wars?

The first actual issue of Uncanny X-Men I read was Life-Death part 2.... and it was not what I was expecting.

X-Men: Pryde of the X-Men pilot team.

Cyclops
Colossus
Dazzler
Nightcrawler
Wolverine
Storm
Professor X
Kitty Pryde

Next encountered them in the early issues of the new X-Men series.

Blue Team (Cyclops, Wolverine, Beast, Psylocke, Gambit, Rogue, and occasionally Jubilee), Gold Team (Storm, Jean, Iceman, Colossus, Archangel, Bishop), with Banshee, Forge, and Professor X as support.

138.  Cyclops left.  The remaining were:

Storm
Wolverine
Collossus
Nightcrawler

I didn't know after that issue that Sprite and Angel would be considered memebers in the next issue.

My X-Men were the original team...

I think the first issue I read was #8 with Unus the Untouchable, but I can't be positive, since I was on a hunt to get all the x-men comics that were printed at that time through the used book stores.

The thrill of the hunt for half price comics (6 cents an issue, no tax)... I won't see that again in my lifetime.
