I recently purchased a Kane layout of page 5 from the classic issue, Spider-man #102 (second appearance of Morbius) from November 1971.  Nothing like Kane's symphonic anatomy when you throw in Morbius, the living vampire, a six arm Spidey & The Lizard!  This is from one of my top five favorite books as a kid.  You actually get to see some extra stuff that was lost in the inking process such as the Lizard's face.  As you can see Kane didn't like cutting corners as it is on standard size 11 by 17.  What an talent!  Every panel seems to jump right off the page!

I haven't had time to post it at the CAF gallery but I thought I'd give you guys a sneek peek ; )  Enjoy!

I'd have thought with Darwyn Cooke doing the Parker novels someone would re-release that.

*****************

I thought it was an original character along the same vein as Parker. It's not?

Robert Foster did the cover.

Brian I read someplace online that it was an adaptation of the Point Blank movie Lee Marvin character (itself an adaptation of Westlake's Parker).  I am not sure if that is the case because I've never read an interview with Kane talking about the character.

I don't remember where I found this, but it's pretty awesome -

And the finished product -

Kane is amazing.  Some of the first comics I ever read had his art in them, and I've always been in awe of his talent.

Kane will never cease to amaze me.  I'll miss the old giant.

Who inked this Avengers cover? And was this Kane drawing a prelim or the actual breakdowns? If it's the latter, I am afraid the inker lost a lot of what Kane intended, especially as far as the faces are concerned. He even managed to make the background seem 2D, i complete contrast to Kane's intention to have it 3D.

SAVAGE is not an adaptation of Point Blank-- it's a Kane created US Agent
character in the vein of James Bond. The choice to put Lee Marvin's likeness
on the cover is puzzling because it doesn't match Kane's design. I
understand that it was this very likeness that doomed the magazine since
Marvin's reps sued for using his likeness without permission.

It is fairly common (still) with lurid paperbacks to have the cover painters use the likeness of Hollywood "Tough guy" actors. In Europe at least. "Savage" must have been jinxed to get singled out for a lawsuit.

Thanos - the Grand Comics Database credits the inks to Frank Giacoia (with a "?" so they're not certain).

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a conscious decision to make the background so one-dimensional so the characters stand out a little more.
