As someone who grew up living with his mother, sister, grandmother (and later an adopted sister and a baby sister), plus surrounded by plenty of aunts, believe me, JB's strong portrayal of women did not go unnoticed to this reader!

Your comment reminds me of a line from a standup comic I saw years ago. He mentioned that he grew up in a house that was all female, he being the only male there with his mother and four sisters. "I was twenty years old before I stopped shaving with one foot in the sink!"

Gotta go with the writing here too. JB's prowess with the pencil is well
respected, even by his detractors, but his work with story and script
has become my default setting for comics reading. Where other
comics often seem poorly constructed, JB's work just seems "right."

Always

For me it is his writing, specifically his ability to keep several storylines
moving forward. I always point to WCA as the best paced comic book
ever as there are SO many stories but they are foreshadowed so well,
there is never a break from one "story" to the next. Just classic,
seamless comic book writing that everyone should be forced to learn
IMHO.

The little details JB puts in that give you an idea of who these people he's drawing are, such as their office desks, living areas of their homes, etc

One thing I like about JB's writing - and I really came to appreciate it during
his first JBNM run - is the way he uses the last few words from one scene to
transition to the next.

For me, it's the blend of the illustrative quality similar to Neal Adams
with the power of Jack Kirby. All the while being completely original.

Related to rubble, I've always admired JB's ability to draw explosions.

I agree, Greg, there was a great explosion in SUPERMAN VOL. 2 #2.

Women. The way they stand, move, stride, smile, gesture. It takes a master to capture the magnificent sensuality of beautiful women without resorting to the sophomoric, and JB excells at it.

To go along with Rod Collins' comment about living spaces: The mannerisms and behavior of pets--- I've noticed several times over how realistically natural the cats and dogs move and emote in JB's comics. An exceptionally observant artist; ie, knowing what to observe and how to portray it.
