Are we far enough away from this series where you can tell us what your origin for Rita would have been? how she got her powers and came to work for the Chief? --- JB does show how how and why Rita came to work for the chief.

Wallace, I missed that. I will have to re-read. I remember her working for the Chief in flash-backs but don't recollect how she came to work for him.I do still want to know how she got her powers in JB's version.

I also really enjoyed this series of Doom Patrol, and was quite dismayed that both Nudge and Grunt were killed off in the initial issue of the new Doom Patrol, that is now also getting canceled. I think what I liked best about Mr. Byrne's Doom Patrol was that it actually felt like they were a part of the DC universe; they were still the odd ones out, but they were a part of it. This new series made it seem as if they weren't even in the same universe as Superman and Batman; in fact, I think the only proof of them being in the same universe was the inclusion of Ambush Bug, which actually made me not want to read the title, rather than read it more.

In issue 5 I think it was, there's a moment when Rita is talking with a scientist who's been underground for some time and he recalls Elasti-Girl having a different hairstyle, but then it seems he can't quite put his finger on what he's remembering. I've long wondered if this was going to lead to an in-series explanation for the continuity reboot. This scientist and his team, being apart from the rest of the world and it's various Crises, Zero Hours, and Superboy-Prime Reality Wall Punching, seemed to take a moment to "catch up" with the new versions of the DP once they saw them. Did it appear that way to anyone else?

I think that cleared itself up when her past was revealed in the series, Brian.

I read the first seven or eight issues today and had a fine time doing so. My favorite story is the one from issues 3 and 4 with the colony of creatures under the ice at the South Pole. I love JB doing that kind of superhero "Michael Crichton" story, with action/suspense steeped heavily in science.
Also had forgotten how fun it was to give superheroes a neat base, to see superheroes going undercover (as per the robot gladiator storyline), and just the general misfit nature of the team.
Only sucky thing: turns out I'm somehow missing three issues (can't recall why), and since I'm wanting to read the series from beginning to end, I decided to order them and hold on continuing till they arrive. That ain't no fun!

I think it wasn't merely the change in hairstyle, but that she also denied it ever looking differently that indicated more was going on. As I recall, this was eventually explained though.

I've never been a Doom Patrol fan and I haven't read this series. I'm curious about it though. Anyone want to give me a sales pitch to sell me?
Was it collected?
