I quickly dropped it at that point.

I stayed for about a half dozen issues. It was horrible. Worst Doom Patrol ever.

Minor point of interest about Morrison's run: that's where I learned the word "meme," a good ten or fifteen years before it really entered the public consciousness and started being applied to LOLcats.

In regards to Drake praising Morrison's DP run, IIRC, Drake didn't tell Morrison personally that he liked Morrison's run, but Morrison heard from someone at DC that Drake liked his run.

The current DP series has been cancelled (yet again) with its 22nd
issue.

===================================================

I've actually enjoyed the Keith Giffen Doom Patrol, but sadly, like all series I seem to like it bites the dust.

Dave A: I didn't dig the Vertigo covers. I have a bunch of issues of Morrison's Patrol with the weird freaky covers. I can't say I hate them, but they sure weren't to make kids buy'em.

Actually, I may not have cared for Vertigo's illustrated covers, but I loved the photographic covers. Mostly thinking of those SANDMAN MYSTERY THEATRE covers, which evoked those famous Black Lizard Crime reprints of Jim Thompson and Charles Williford noir novels.

That's a bitchin' Animal-Vegetable-Mineral Man (whose depiction on the BRAVE & THE BOLD cartoon I loved), but in fact  this was the image I was thinking of.

"I can't say I hate them, but they sure weren't to make kids buy'em."

Dear Jeebus, what "kids" did you want reading those books?
If you mean 15+, then YES! They did make us buy them!!! I bought Sandman and Hellblazer BECAUSE of the Dave McKean covers, and I was 15.
Heck, after a while, Vertigo-ish books weren't supposed to be sold to "kids" due to the age restriction.

BUT THEY WERE KEWL!!!  Bisley? KEWL!!!

So, I hate to say it, but I'm not sure what you're thinking. Maybe it's that you think most teenagers want Batman & Superman. Or Image?

They don't.  Most teenagers don't want comics, period. Those weird ones like me wanted Artsy Fartsy. Everyone else wanted Lee or Mcfarlane...
The different Kewl.

I've just (thanks to be nudged - no pun intended) by this thread the whole run of JB's DP and what a great series it was.  A sleeper hit.  I love the fantastic elements.  It reminds me a bit of a 1950s science fiction film.
