I remember when I first saw Killraven and though 'Wow, that looks like Apeslayer' did a bit of digging and then was surprised to find out that Killraven came first

8 pence! Today that seems SO cheap, but at the time U.K. comics were between 2 and 5 pence!

Makes me think of my first copy of EAGLE -- 4 pence ha'penny in 1958!

Yes J.B. but when your only income was pocket money it was mega-bucks! The Marvel U.K. reprints had  glossy colour covers, but black and white interior art, while the home grown comics were mostly on newsprint type paper their plus point was colour covers and mostly colour interior art.To a kid the colour art was more attractive,so was the cheaper price. My rationale was this...10p pocket money equals one Marvel U.K. comic or one U.K. homegrown comic plus enough change for chocolate or sweets(Candy),the kid in me usually went for the comic/sweets combo!

There was an article about "Killraven becomes POTA" in one of the Comic Book Artist collections. It was a bonus article not in the original magazines.

In it they printed several side-by-side pages of the Before and After art.

As a side note --

I watched the original Planet of the Apes TV show back when it first aired, I was very young, maybe 4 or 5 or so (I don't know the actual year it aired).  I remember the show was my introduction to POTA.  A bunch of years later (1980 or 81) they did a marathon of all the films on TV, back-to-back and I saw the actual movie for the first time and the sequels.  Now, remember, I was 4 or 5 when I saw the TV show and really had no memory of it other than "cool" - so I assume it was as good as the films.

As I grew up I watched the movies again and saw how the quality of the later films really suffers compared to the first 2 films (and even the 2nd film is a stretch).  Now my opinion of the TV show (I couldn't remember) was that it was probably pretty poor since it followed the film series and only lasted a season.

Fast forward to a few years ago and I picked up the TV series on DVD - sat down and watched it for nostalgia -- it really wasn't that bad.  A lot of recognizable faces (or voices) show up (Mark Leonard (Sarek ot Star Trek) jumped right out at me).

So, I recommend that any fans of the film series who have not seen the TV show go out and find it and watch it -- it really was a lot of fun.

(I've never seen the 13 animated episodes "Return to the Planet of the Apes" --- I'd love to hear a review if anyone has.  Worth finding ?)

I was a bit fan of the POTA animated series. I didnt take to it at first, as the apes had jeeps and WW2 era planes & technology, but it kind of grew on me.

The funniest part of watching these shows today is that General Urko has the same voice as 70's Fed Flintstone.

I vaguely remember the animated series,i do remember that the animation was very basic with a LOT of re-used footage.
