Thanks, Bill -- I thought my little nugget of knowledge got overlooked because of all the super cool vintage Byrne stuff.

That series featured reprints from the black and white Planet of the Apes magazine, which ran for something like 30 issues.  I'm pretty sure the UK series was also reprints from that book.  JB didn't draw any stories in the B&W magazine, but it's possible one of the issues featured a drawing by him in the frontispiece or accompanying an article.

White Raven was not my character. I did that drawing for a fanzine, whose publisher had created the character.

The Apes art John did was not published. The Marvel Apes mag was caught by Marvel's b+w cull in late 1976, but there were several stories that were scripted and at least one, Forbidden Zone Prime, that was fully drawn. We know this because Doug Moench has unearthed three scripts and ,over the years, the art to a further story has appeared on the internet.I suspect that John's work was for a new strip---John did b+w work at roughly the same time in the form of Starlord. Val Mayerik was slated to do one new strip and the final Apes mag had some curious posters by Pat Broderick, so the art pool for Apes was being widened at the time.I will try to find a way to get scans of these images done.I'm a total tool with this stuff, so will have to hunt help. And I'm sorry to refere to 'John' when replying to....'John'---it just seems the most polite way of speaking to everybody.Cheers, John.

I still have absolutely NO memory of doing ANY PotA related art! I don't recall ever even doodling the characters in a sketchbook!

Well, let me find a way to display it and I'm either the bearer of surprise news or a total, total tit who has mis identified some art! I'm feeling confident, however! John.

Given some of the crazy stuff I have seen identified as my work at conventions and online, I would not be at all surprised to find this mystery being solved by exactly that -- someone else's work mistaken for mine.

But, then, given the things that occasionally turn up of which I have no memory, because they were dashed off on a visit to the office as a favor to an editor, or whipped thru in a mountain of other work -- well, I would not be altogether surprised to see that turn out to be the answer, either.

Cool thread. I love seeing and hearing about these pieces and
characters I am not familiar with at all.

I have all of the Marvel Mag. and comic. If your saying he did a story, you are mistaken. I have read these things over and over and there is no Byrne in there. Ploog and Tom Sutton did most of the art for the original stories. I guess I could be wrong ,but I don't think so. Which issue is it in?

I think they're real.

And they're fantastic.
