Does anybody (John?!!) have any details on the Planet of the Apes work John did for Marvel in the 70s? There are some sketches out there and I edit Simian Scrolls, the Apes fanzine. We'd love to know more about it.John Roche

I did work for PLANET OF THE APES? Completely forgotten it, if I did!

John, pardon me whilst I empty my pants .The shock of getting a reply from Mr Fantastic Four has me a bit wobbly. Yes, in the mid 70s, you did some Apes art.One scene featured a human with his arms tied behind his back (using a log, I think) and a suitably nubile lady, standing in an arena surrounded by Apes.I'm a total Marvelite, so, with some humble trepidation, I would say the art style is very Marvel Team Up era, definitely pre-X-Men.If it was for a series, Doug Moench would definitely have been the writer.I'm a techno tit, but, if it helps, I could ask intelligent friends to sort out scans.I'm based in pissing wet West Wales, UK, so you're reply has brightened a dull day! Thanks! John.

I'd love to see this. I have absolutely no memory of it. Even reading your description rings no bells.

I recently learned there is another unknown Byrne comic around.
This isn't listed in the checklist, so I don't know if there really is Byrne stuff inside:
Nightmare #20, 1974, from Skywald.
JB, do you remember this?

That's probably the 2 (or was it 3?) pager I did way, way, way back at the beginning. Black and white, inked by Duffy Vohland.

Thank you, JB. I didn't know something came first than Wheelie, Rog-2000 on E-man and the GS Dracula, so this book was a surprise.
And now, of course, the hunt begins. There's no rest for comic collectors!

Seems like the thread to ask. Poking around Google looking for the POTA art in question, I stumbled upon this: It's titled "Kadavahr the Resurrected" and looks to be dated 1974. I may be having a brain fart, but I don't remember ever seeing this. If you don't mind me asking, what's the story behind it?

The Marvel UK imprint publised PLANET OF THE APES for 123 issues from 1974 to1977.
Issues 88 to 123 were double features of PLANET OF THE APES and DRACULA comics.
I am wondering if "John Byrne" as artist titles show in an issue that reprints John's Dracula issue he drew for Marvel in 1975 , Dracula Giant Size #5

If you don't mind me asking, what's the story behind it?•• Well, first up, it's not "Ka-Davahr". He was my very own Conan rip-off, featuring a beefy warrior with a skull for a face (echoes of "The Death's Head Knight".) LINK The lady above was called (and don't hold me to this!) "Space Angel", and both the female figures are her. It was a sci-fi superhero kind of thing, and, like Ka-Davahr, it was done as a pitch to any publishers who might be interested. None were!

Interesting piece there, Matt - pretty sure it's not Ka-davahr, but it looks like it's along the same lines. This is the Ka-davahr piece I have in the Gallery (also from 1974), published in a fanzine called Heroes Inc. Presents #2:
It is also looks similar in style to this piece, labeled Destiny (1974):
