Pascal do you also collect European comic art ? And how do you explain the difference in prices(see my earlier post) ?
••••
Philippe, I don't collect european art (so far) for the very reason you stated. It's cost so much more! Nothing wrong with it except that it's keeping me away from this market. As for the reason behind, I would guess it's cultural and related to the way we (as a whole but even more so from an artist point of view) approach the comics business.
In US, it's rooted in an industry tradition, in France it's trailing behind art .
Still, I own the occasional "dédicace" drawing here and there, mostly from second hand books. Looking back at my BD collection, I have many different first names! Lol

Original artwork is a bit expensive, for me: my guilty, expensive pleasure in comics is buying old Silver/Bronze Age books, so, when I see a wonderful original page, I think how many comic books I could buy with the same amount of money.
Anyway, this was my first page:
Bought at DOA in Summer, 2005.
I love the Generations saga, and I wanted an original piece by my favorite author. A Superman or Spider-Man related one, if possible.
Sorry for the bad quality of the scan, the original is framed and I had to scan an old, ruined print of the DOA site picture.

Ron, if I had that Cooke page, I would sleep with it under my pillow and wake up in the morning every day and rub it all over my face. I am so jealous right now.

Brian Peck, I'm so jealous that you had a page from X-Men #112, my first comic. I wonder who's got the cover to that issue. While we're talking bargain prices, that Simonson/Janson page I had from Battlestar Galactica cost me $15, but the best deal I got at that same show, by far, Erik Larsen sold me two pages, one from his first Marvel gig (a Hulk fill-in scripted by Stan!) and one from his first DC gig, the first issue he did of Doom Patrol, $5 each. I couldn't believe it. I think he was the artist on Amazing Spider-Man at the time, and he was giving that stuff away, but I didn't argue with him.

I bought this page from Marc Silvestri at a Motor City Con, right as "Cyberforce" was launching. I'd never been to a con with actual pros I recognized as guests so I didn't know what to expect. I walked into the area Silvestri, Dale Keown and Erik Larsen were set up and Marc had piles of X-Men and Wolverine pages for sale. The X-Men pages were $20, the Wolverine pages were $25. I was just a poor college kid but I dug through until I found a couple pages with Betsy Braddock on them. This is the only one I still have, having had to sell the other during hard times, but I was a huge Silvestri fan when he was on X-Men and really love having this page in my collection.

RE: My SPIDER-MAN CHAPTER ONE cover-- JB: Pretty good offer for a piece of art from a series everybody hated and nobody read. --- Hm. Wonder if I still have that guy's number... I joke. Yeah, I would have made a good profit on it -- but who-the-hell cares!
