I am a bit shocked that the header was not on an overlay on that ASM cover.•• Do you mean this in the sense of not actually being pasted onto the art? If so, that was very rare. Most work was done directly on the art, cutting, pasting, whiting-out, you name it. That was simply the way of the world, back then. Ten feet away from me, as I sit at the computer here, I have a Joe Kubert OUR ARMY AT WAR cover, and the logo is pasted directly onto the art. (Unlike the Kane/Romita piece, the dialog ballons are lettered on the art, not paste-ups.)
