Something less than a decade later he gave me his drafting equipment, including that pencil, and I went on to use it to draw all my issues of WHEELIE AND THE CHOPPER BUNCH, DOOMSDAY PLUS ONE, SPACE: 1999, IRON FIST -- oh, year. And a couple of books called X-MEN and FANTASTIC FOUR. (A few AVENGERS thrown in there, too.)

That's an inspirational way to remind yourself of your father. Gets me thinking of ways to be as thoughtful. You have my condolences Mr. Byrne.

I haven't stopped by enough to have caught this in time, so I offer belated condolences.

The stories, jokes and photos were well worth reading through the entire thread. Thanks for sharing them!

(URL deleted)

I'm fairly certain John has seen this, but here's a nice write-up for his dad.

Thanks for the thought, Mike. I deleted the URL so as to avoid the minibrains storming my Dad's Obit page.

Recently joined this forum, just wanted to offer my condolences and sympathies. From what I've read about your dad he sounded like he lived a full and happy life. Not much more you can ask for.

Sorry John. I didn't consider the potential for malice. My apologies.

A family friend sent me a photo tour of Dad's suite at the Home, to see if there were any items I wanted shipped down here.

What an odd experience. I have been there several times since Dad moved, but never looking at it with quite those eyes. Odd how very little there was that I wanted. Lots of memories, but not much nostalgia.

It probably has a lot to do with all the times we moved when I was a kid. As I have mentioned, I didn't have two birthdays in the same house until I was 16, and not long after I moved out on my own. So, unlike many of you I expect, I don't have a "home base" in my memories. There's no geographical location to attach to so many of these objects that were precious to Dad, and so they have very little meaning to me.

Fortunately, they are very precious indeed to his collection of friends up in Calgary, so they will find good homes.

One the subject of which -- Dad put on "movie nights" twice a week at the Home, from the large DVD collection he'd accumulated (many of which I bought for him). The collection is being donated to the Home, and I found out today they are going to officially name their media room the Frank Byrne Theater.

Gotta know he woulda loved that!!
