I wish you'd tell us the joke though...

••

Man goes into a roadside diner, sits at the counter, sees there a small sign.

Chicken Salad Sandwich -- $3.50

Egg Salad Sandwich -- $4.50

Handjob -- $5.00

The waitress approaches. "What'll ya have, hon?"

"Are you the one who gives the handjobs?" the man asks.

"Sure am!"

"Then go wash your hands. I want an egg salad sandwich!"

Do you have a favorite story about an experience with your father?

••

There's one that still makes me smile.

All the time I was growing up, due in no small part to the increasingly elevated positions he held in various civic governments, I was "Frank Byrne's son."

Circa 1985, Dad came for a visit, and we went to a New York convention together, where -- as he pointed out -- he was repeatedly introduced as "John Byrne's father".

And that joke was hilarious, BTW!

Well this is a great thread - what wonderful stories, JB.  The tux is just perfect.  Now that's going with style!

Thanks for talking about your dad, JB.  A warm rememberance through stories and pictures is a fitting tribute for a good man.  We all personally have to go through the loss of a parent, and your candor is much appreciated.  It makes thinking about this kind of loss easier for me over the last few days.

And just so you know, I will be stealing that joke.  I will also be avoiding egg salad sandwiches this week!

I'll be passing along that joke to my dad.  I'm sure he'll have a few to fire right back.

Heh, that sounds like a joke that George Carlin would tell.

I happened to catch his final HBO performance on Netflix on Saturday night....was eerie to hear him focus on death so much.

:) Great story! I'm sure it was exciting for him--and your mother--to see
you doing so well.
