Old news by now. This was in my local daily fishwrap late last week. My question is, the way things are going, how long will it be before it's announced that one of the major companies will cease publication of monthly comics completely, as a business decision dictated by the higher-ups in corporate hierarchy, in this age of profit-driven media and merchandising proliferation in which comicbooks are an increasingly smaller piece, and ultimately become a vestigial vanity arm of the media corporation that owns them? Depressing, huh? Disclaimer: I apologize if this has already been covered in another thread. However, far as I know, this particular interpretation has not yet been promulgated. ![](uploads/FrancisGrey/2010-12-28_205949_001a1.jpg)

Strange that the final chapter in the story won't be sold on newsstands, but, apparently, the other chapters will be sold on newsstands. So much for the casual reader who may pick up these issues because he or she may have heard or read something about it.

Okay, I'm a geek. So the thing that jumped out at me was name dropping "The Sentry". A C-list character with no recognition factor outside of fandom????? The cynic in me says it will sell a few extra copies to the speculators and give Marvel something to crow about.

I thought the Sentry was an odd choice, too. Why not Thor--given that he, oh, has a movie coming out and all?

My question is how long will the media keep falling for these "stories"? Death of Superman, Death of Captain America, Spider-Man reveals his identity...none of this stuff is ever permanent. Comic fans obviously know this. But by now, I would think the media would have caught on.

Sometimes I wish this forum didn't seem so devoted to one-upmanship in tales of industry despair. I know it's rough out there. It just doesn't feel like anything remotely positive is being accomplished with thread after thread of, "Here's another sad thing about comics today."

Unless if you compared it to the sinking of the Titanic, before the point of no return.
