Yeah, THAT makes sense! It's like when comics have covers by different artists and the cover by the interior artist is the one that's hard to find because it's printed at a 1:25 ratio. Way to sell what's in the book, guys!

I like Kirby's original of course but don't mind the new one either. I agree though that I don't think they needed to do a new one. Let the original stand.

I like both versions. I admit, I am the type of guy who loves reimaginings of covers or different art. It is like when a good band comes out with a cover version of a song I already love.

As far as which version I but, it depends on where I find the better deal. I Ebay a lot of my books like this, so I will get when I get.

That cover is credited to Ron Garney but it looks like Carlos Pacheco to me. Either way, I think it's a great drawing. New covers on repackaged material are nothing new. I'll likely buy this and would prefer the original, so-called "variant" but I'm after what's between the covers and it doesn't really matter to me what's on the wrapper.

If you want to complain about something, complain about the heavy, slick paper it's probably going to be printed on. I'd love to see these things printed like the DC Kirby's NEW GODS omnibi. No glare and not heavy enough to commit suicide with.

Now I don't really care which cover I get, as long as what's inside is
better than the garbage they put out today I'm okay with however they
want to package it. These things are the only Marvel purchases I
make anymore.

----

That's kind of my take on it. Again, I personally would prefer the Kirby
cover and find it silly that IT'S the variant. It's the inside stories I buy it
for. Plus, the original cover is in there.

I'm also pretty sure that the reimagined cover is just on the jacket. The
actual Kirby cover is underneath on the front cover.

I doubt it, all the others I have just have the title on the actual cover.

While I can understand the sentiment of not being to fussed about the cover because of the content inside, it doesn't exactly suggest the powers that be at Marvel think a whole lot of Jack Kirby.

But then I guess he was just a hack.

I do find it frustrating that the interior artist's cover is usually given 2nd class status and made a "variant". However, when it comes to the Omnibus collections it is at least a 1 to 1 ratio. So it is easy to order the version you want without paying a higher price.

I dig Ron Garney's work, but I agree with Matt W. that his Cap has a real Pacheco look instead of the Ron Garney I'm used to seeing. Not a bad thing mind you, just different.

What bugs me is I don't see a "after Kirby" type credit on the new cover.

The variant cover is listed as direct market only.
It doesn't cost any more than the "original" cover. I guess the idiots at NuMarvel figure a Kirby cover in bookstores won't sell as many units as Garney.

Do you suppose someone actually gets one of those home, rips off the shrink wrap, and gets upset because the art inside isn't done by the same guy that did the cover?

I would imagine that anyone who's going to drop $100 on one of these probably knows exactly what's inside.
