We hold these truths to be self-evident.

Alas, Al, for us Canadians, those truths are "Peace, Order and Good Government"...

Al:

My perception was that she got a lot of shit for disagreeing with a lot of
people on one thread, and decided not to post anymore. That may be
wrong. In the interest of not commenting on things that I don't know
enough about, I removed my comment from my post, with a note saying
as much.

But. But. I stand by my general comments. In my opinion, this
forum has become less enjoyable and more strident in the last several
years. In my opinion, virtually every positive comment about anything new
is now leavened with an unhealthy dose of pessimism and vitriol. In my
opinion, liking something new is seen by many here as being not just
debatable, but actually disrespectful of that which has come before it.

I've felt the urge to comment about that lately because I've been around
here awhile, and thought that maybe comments from a more familiar
voice would ring a little more true than it would from someone who
signed up just to bitch.

What did you have for breakfast, Brad?

---

Oatmeal! Two packages of Maple Brown Sugar Quaker Oatmeal! With milk! And a cup of tea!

I'll tell you anything you want, just stop looking at me that way!

Honestly, why does Quaker even bother to put that stuff in that size package.  Everyone uses two.

The key words, that a lot of people who complain about this forum seem to overlook, are the ones at the end. SHE DECIDED not to post anymore.

Whether that's temporary, and she comes back, or she decides to just hang out with the gang in person and on Facebook, that's up to her. She's an awesome lady and a great friend. But it's her choice. I'm still here. That's my choice.

Did I read the forum rules before I signed up? You bet. Have I had posts and threads deleted that didn't abide those rules? You bet. Did I feel like an idiot afterward when I thought of it? You bet. I'm in another person's house, and I've been made to feel very welcome. Doesn't mean I can kick the cat and piss on the rug.

Because they are Quakers -- they expect you'll use your self restraint.

I used one package on exactly one occasion, which left me in quite the bind later on since they always come with an even number of packets in a box, and I had an odd packet out.

So to make up for it one day I had three, and boy did I suffer for it.

Moral of the story? Always eat two.

Because they are Quakers -- they expect you'll use your self restraint.

Conversely, if we just passively accept the formated packaging size, it is one more submission to social control. Reclaim your individuality -- don't let some soulless multinational corporation force-feed you their standard for "individual serving"!

Although I'm not a fan of most comics and creators of today, it'd be simply wrong to attack or criticize someone for liking them. I think society in general has adopted a stance where differing opinions are frowned upon, and toeing the party line is the way to go.

Don't hesitate to speak up, Sean <g>!

 QUOTE:
I realize that what I am about to write will unleash a torrent of comments across the 'Net from those microbrains who are able to "think" only when someone tells them what to say -- ie, when someone like me says "I don't like this. . . " do they race to use/do/say "this" as much and as often as they can, but. . .

I'm really tired of seeing myself referred to as "bitter". Let's get this really clear and straight in all our minds (no matter how tiny and useless some of those minds may be): I am not bitter. I am ANGRY.

I have seen comics, an entertainment form once intended for the widest possible audiences, and an entertainment form to which I have dedicated a most of my adult life, turned into a niche market exercise in mutual masturbation for aging fanboys and ennui engorged bungee jumpers.

I have seen characters I grew up loving and admiring, and even perhaps trying to emulate, turned into bleak, empty, virtually pornographic caricatures of themselves.

I have seen something which was once done purely for the love of it turned into something that is all about money.

And, ladies and gentlemen, I am PISSED.

Yet again I did not have the patience to read through the whole thread before posting my comment.

I just have to say THANK YOU JB,... because you just expressed EXACTLY how I feel.

I too am PISSED.  Absolutely PISSED at the state of comics today.

I for one truly appreciate your courage and your convictions for posting your feelings.
