QUOTE:
Well, apparently there's been a swerve regarding Hobgoblin: Its NOT Kingsley, after all. Kingsley was going to become the Hobgoblin again, but was killed by the person who became the new Hobgoblin. The new Hobgoblin is....Phil Ulrich, who is apparently nuts. He's now a villain, not a heroic Hobgoblin. |

I just flipped through the issue today, and when I saw that, I immediately put it down. I am a huge Hogboglin (Kingsley) fan. It was one of the BIG things in comics when I first started reading. I was so happy when Stern came back and did Hobgoblin Lives which restored the character to his full glory. Then I start this issue, and Hobby is doing things he just would not do under Stern. Firing automatic somehow Kingsley is turned into a complete putz. He doesn't sound like him; he doesn't act like; and most importantly he falls to a ridiculous nobody loser. This guy, who fought Spider-Man to a standstill for years (and who won some minor battles) is undone by some bizarre sonic scream and gets his head cut off? Lame. Why even bring back Hobgoblin if it's not going to be the Hobgoblin?

To Fred: who are you Fred? De Falco's lawyer? We're talking about comics here, not national security... Who cares what he said exactly. He probably thinks what I think 'cept he can't say it out loud. ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------ I'm kinda glad the new Hobgoblin is NOT Kingsley. To me Kingsley was resurrected by De Falco during his tenure on the late great Spider-Girl. May he rest in Mayday's futureverse and a fond memory of what the one TRUE Hobgoblin really was.

Having not read the issue in question yet, I'm still holding the line that the Kingsley who was killed wasn't Roderick. They killed off the 'Kingsley' Hobgoblin for temporary shock value, nothing more.
Especially when they've pulled the Roderick/Daniel switcheroo on the readers in the past.
Especially when they've used the 'brainwashed by the Winkler process' explanation in the past.
This is just another manifestation of these sorts of story tricks/cheats.
If it does turn out that Roderick was permanently killed (or as dead as you can be in the MU) then it seems especially disrespectful seeing that Stern was an occasional contributor to BND. Don Slott (the new Spider-man showrunner) doesn't seem the type to piss all over the work of others for spite.

Agreed. Stern & De Falco's runs were the greatest. They must mean something to Slott.

Slott's very respectful of past characters and previous continuity. I would be shocked if the Kingsley Hogbolin is actually dead, especially, as others have pointed out, since the character has a history of faking his death by switching his place with that of another (and we never saw under the Hobgoblin's mask, in the two issues which he appeared). Also excited to see Tom DeFalco's Phil Urich again. Fun character. It's been far too long.

>To Fred: who are you Fred? De Falco's lawyer? Nope. I am clear who I am and it's becoming clear that you are symptomatic of the mindset and actions that have made the online comic community such an unhealthy and irresponsible place. Thanks for clarifying. >We're talking about comics here, not national security... Who cares what he said exactly. He probably thinks what I think 'cept he can't say it out loud. You were not talking about comics. You were making statements regarding DeFalco's words. A very big difference there. I'd imagine he cares what responses are being attributed to him. I'm thinking of a number between 1 and 50, wanna tell me what it is and then spread it around?

"Who cares what he said exactly."
Anyone who is interested in accuracy and who has the same respect for others as they'd expect for themselves, that's who cares.

…Slott's very respectful of past characters…•• Wasn't it Slott who had She-Hulk having a sexual relationship with the Juggernaut?

Wasn't it Slott who had She-Hulk having a sexual relationship with the Juggernaut? ______________________________ No, that was Chuck Austen during his terrible Uncanny X-Men run. Austen also wrote that issue of Action Comics where a Kryptonian villain raped a woman to death (it was strongly implied through dialogue and a panel where the bad guy emerged from his tent with the woman's blood all over his costume).

And Chuck Austen that made Nightcrawler the son of a demon and part of a whole race of demon-beings.

Austen also used to draw (and maybe even write) porn comics.
