Typical Marvel (or typical present day comic book publisher)
They finally kill the DeFalco/Frenz Spider-Girl, make a BIG DEAL about bringing Spider-Girl to the "proper universe" by launching a new Spider-Girl series (looking nothing like and have nothing to do with the other SG) and -- it's already been cancelled! (well, actually it was turned into a mini series... but these days, that's about the same thing)

Richard, are you sure the new Spider-Girl has been turned into a mini? I hadn't heard about that, and the February solicits don't mention it being a mini.

According to Paul Tobin, the writer, that's just a rumor.

I looked at the new Spider-Girl at my shop today and I just can't bring myself to call anyone but Mayday Spider-Girl. I've heard good things about it but the owner and a few customers said that nothing really happens in the first issue so they're reserving judgement until the next issue. My store's owners know what their customers like and they read every comic so I usually trust their recommendations.

I took a look at the new, non-May SPIDER-GIRL earlier today, and was disappointed. Frenz and DeFalco set the bar VERY high.

@Shawn Kane: " few customers said that nothing really happens in the first issue"
Wow, if that's true, do we need more evidence about the state of most modern day comics? The first issue of a brand new character (since she's not Mayday) and nothing really happens? How pathetic is that? They can't write a stand-alone story that introduces the character, establishes their motivations and maybe even introduce a villain?
You know, like virtually every comic's first issue that was produced prior to 1990!

New Spider-Girl / Arana series cancelled ? SERVES MARVEL RIGHT! I will never forgive Marvel for having cancelled "Spider MayDay Girl". I'm so happy it just went back right thru their faces. I'm sure De Falco shares my POV (see the itv where he's pissed for having his 12 year old creation cancelled)

Richard, Between Spider-Girl and T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents, you had two books I was interested in checking out and very lackluster first issues prevented me from buying both!

The team of DeFalco, Frenz and Buscema is one of my favorite current creative team. These guys just know how to write, pencil and ink comic books...I wish they would get more work. I would love Frenz and Buscema on the Amazing Spider-Man title.

Joss,, unless Tom's been sharing info with you or others that is in complete opposition to his comments over the past 10 years, he doesn't share your opinion. I enjoyed the series alot, though the sales on it were abysmal and far lower than a paltry 20,000 copies per issue. Mayday was a quality book and I am very critical of what I view as missteps by both of the big companies.... but cancelling this book was not an unreasonable action based on sales. Spider-Girl wasn't treated unfairly. She was given multiple reprieves over the years. (... certainly more than the subject of this thread is getting from us.)
