X-men 108 for me . I remember when i heard Cockrum was off the book and I thought oh noo...then X-men 108 appeared with JB  and I was blown away . I think this is the only time for me that a great artist was replaced with even a better one . (just my opinion , with no offence to Cockrum )

It's funny, but I honestly can't remember what my first JB
issue was. And if I thought I could, I'd probably be
wrong.

For instance, for years I thought New Teen Titans was my
first exposure to George Perez, only to realize some old
Avengers back issues I had were by George, so it'd probably
be the same case with JB.

My first John Byrne comic (at least that I remember) was Marvel Team-Up 59. I remember the thing that stood out to me the most about that comic was the way JB drew explosions. I really liked the way he had flaming chunks of debris shooting out of his explosions, and as a budding artist at the time I immediately appropriated that technique! :)

Marvel Team-Up was a title I would only pick up occasionally at the time, but  I was so entranced by JB's artwork that I started getting every issue up until the end of his run. I've been a Byrne Victim ever since.

Doomsday +1 was my first contact with JB's work. Went from there to  Space 1999 and then to the Champions. Have tried to follow his work ever since.

Marvel Team-Up # 59 got me started on JB's art as well...

... then i collected his (too-brief!) MTU run and followed him to
THE UNCANNY X-MEN (#135 to be exact! then i had to backtrack!)
and THE MIGHTY AVENGERS (Count Nefaria!!!) -- from then i was forever hooked!!!

-C!

Pretty sure it was "Space: 1999" #5...  The artist didn't mean much to this 10yo, though.

Greg - I love that story from Marvel Team-Up #59-60!

My first JB comic that I can recall is from October, 1975 -

The first issue I ever got that had any Byrne work was this one:

Of course that was JB only on the cover, I guess doing finishes for Al Milgrom, though I see a lot of JB here.  The inside art was Sal Buscema, another one of my favorites, but I'm sure the JB cover, plus the FF, Spider-Man AND Dr. Doom are what sold me (as it turns out only Reed is real in this issue.  Spider-Man is an impostor and all the other characters on this cover are robots working for Dr. Faustus, but, still!)

So my first issue with JB interior work was this:

I was home sick one day when I was seven.  My father brought this home for me because he was intrigued by the photo cover.  I was hooked!

So, yes, my first JB was him on the cover, nothing inside, but my first comic written and drawn by JB was the only one of his entire run with a cover he didn't draw.

(okay, I assume he drew the cover box, the eye beams and maybe the title, too, but, again, still ...)

(edited for formatting)

Still have it, and still remember why I bought it:

Alan Carter piloting a MK IX Hawk Interceptor, and the more accurate look to the Moonbase Alpha hardware compared to the earlier issues (with apologies to Joe Staton).
