"What's a few less bug-eyed monsters?" That line from the above ish still gives me chills.

Iron Fist. And I first saw the work of JB's contemporary, George Perez, on Sons Of The Tiger, another "martial arts" series.

This is a tough question for me because I started reading current comics (I had read piles of comics at my friend's house and I had inherited some that were older than me) at the time right when JB was drawing Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four all in the same month! Also I had the 3 in 1 bags at the grocery store and some of those were like a year old. So around the same time I got X-Men 124 and Avengers 186 off the spinner rack from a local convient store called The Lil'General. Also in those 3 in 1 packets I got Marvel Team-Up with YellowJacket, the Wasp and Spider-Man fighting Equinox and X-Men 122. JB was almost literally drawing the entire Marvel Universe at that time! But I am pretty sure that X-Men 124 was my first comic by JB!

My first was probably a Marvel Team Up but Uncanny X-men # 111changed my life in 8th grade.

Lee, the UK Secret Wars cover is amazing!
My first exposure to Byrne's work was this...

... which contained this story
![](uploads/FrancescoVanagolli/2010-09-29_040837_79-1.jpg)
... and this one

I recently bought a copy of MTU #79 to have at last the book as it was conceived.
I was 5 years old when I read it the first time and...
"What a great artist this mister Claremont!"
Sigh, forgive me...!

Lee - I think that Secret Wars cover was by Jerry Paris. He did a lot of cool covers for Marvel UK back in the day. My bedroom walls were covered in posters from those weeklies by the likes of Jerry, Bob Wakelin, Alan Davis and Mick Austin :)
Found his blog, worth checking out.

My first JB comic was probably a Star Lord back up in Star Wars weekly. I really took notice of his work when Marvel UK printed an FF story, which blew me away in terms of quality. I think it was a What If? tale, where the FF didn't get their powers.

That ACTION cover Kirk posted would make a great topic for a cover reimagining by JB!
