This comment in another thread made me wonder what my first actual John Byrne comic was:

I don't recall which book was my ACTUAL first JB issue, but it might've been that TIGRA issue.

I'm not talking about what book made you a fan of JB's work ( although it could certainly be the same book), I'm talking about the actual first book by JB that you ever got.

I'm thinking mine was FANTASTIC FOUR 256 and 257. They were in a multi pack back of Marvel comics. UXM 172 and AVENGERS 232 and some other books were included in these packs, as well. There were out in '82 or '83 and, while I had a few scattered issues of various titles, these packs really got me into wanting more and more comics. I missed the next issue of UXM, but picked it up with 174 and didn't miss an issue for years after that one. With FF, I would pick up issues sporadically throughout the rest of JB's run until around 275 or so, then I picked up every isses until the end. ( The store I would get my comics at didn't neccessarily get every issue of a title. Very frustrating.)

I can't remember if I got the FF issues before I got IRON FIST 15 at the flea market. I'm thinking I did.

What's your actual first JB issue?

Well documented:  Marvel Tales 204 reprinted Marvel-Team Up 68.  See my ComicArtFans.com gallery for evidence of the impact that issue had on my life!

FF #271.  Gormuu!  At the time, I had no familiarity with the Marvel monster books being homaged.

This is the first Byrne comic I got. I found it as a young boy in my grandfathers antique shop. JB's Fantastic Four run has always been very special to me. It took me many years of my childhood collecting all of the comics from that run.

Alpha Flight #1 was the first that I'm certain of.  I might have seen one of the FF's he did with Sphinx and Galactus and it's possible that I saw the Marvel 2-in-1 with Cap and Juse, the Entroponic Man.  When I see those issues it certainly ~feels~ like I did when I was a kid but I'm not sure.  Although I just bought that because it looked cool. The first comic I got that I bought because it was a John Byrne comic was Avengers West Coast.

Here's my first :

Got it in a Marvel three-pack. Don't remember what else was in it. To this day, I still have not read the first part.

Now that I think about it, before I got that FF comic, I got a set of books -- on on the FF called "The Secret Story of Marvel's Cosmic Quarter," one on the Hulk called "The Secret Story of Marvel's Gamma-Powered Goliath," and one on Captain America called "The Secret Story of Marvel's Star-Spangled Super Hero."

That book reprinted the Stern/Byrne origin of Captain America from Captain America 255, and I think that was my real first Byrne comic.  But the Gormuu comic was my first single-issue Byrne comic.

The first JB issue I bought was the issue of FF entitled "Doomsday Plus One" after Doctor Doom sent the Baxter Building into space.

The first JB issue I read was the issue of FF that showed an embattled Doomstadt after Doom and Zorba went at it.  Incredible, incredible, incredible detail on the two-page splash!!!

(Sorry, I stink with issue numbers.)
