With the threat drift to Lenin, I had to share the following from About.com on seeing Lenin's body:

Lenin is really nothing special. Underneath the glass case, he’s a poor substitution for Sleeping Beauty, appearing less real and more like a wax-cast replica. Indeed, it’s rumored that disintegrated bits of him have been replaced with other substances—or that what you see is a complete stand-in for the long-decrepit corpse.

See, Fred? The minute you put ANYTHING in a plastic coffin, you're always going to have questions on whether or not you've got the real goods!

Many may. I don't. Perception is everything.

Lenin is looking rather well.

All an illusion.  Much of what you see is many years of restoration.  He's probably more wax than man by now.

Is the case clearly noted with an indication that the body has been "restored"?

I bought my Lenin back in the 1980s, at the height of the market. Then the bottom fell out in 1991, and it really dropped in value. I've been waiting for the market to recover, but the damn Russkies are stubbornly clinging to democracy...

Fred: Oops. That's what I meant. I responded that it "isn't analogous".

After thinking about this thread for a few days...

I have a copy of AF #15 that I can open and read and it makes me happy to do so. I feel sorry for anyone that owns the same comic but can only stare at the cover. The end.

Best of luck, Fred -- Glad you got a copy! :)

Don't recall where I read it but I remember an article about pulp
magazines. Seems back in the 50's or 60's there was an active market
in collecting back issues of old pulp magazines from the 1920's and
up. However, since the young kids were no longer buying pulp
magazines, the only ones collecting were old men, who fondly
remembered buying them from their childhood. Collecting pulp
magazines pretty much faded away due to the lack of fresh blood. In
fact, many of the prices for old copies of pulp magazines are based on
the old price lists from the 50's, since they have never been upgraded.

I bought a complete year set of Astounding Science Fiction from 1941
off eBay for about 15 bucks. I love the covers.

Found myself shaking my head after an experience I had a few minutes ago and thought that it may be of some interest to a few on here. Someone had suggested I bring the book to a show and have Stan Lee sign the book, then have it resealed. Apparently, there is a 3rd party involved on top of CGC and Stan Lee, acting as a promoter/organizer. With that said, I contacted CGC to find out the process and was told the following:

If the promoter takes charge of the signing and resealing at the show, I will go through him. CGC reorts that they have no way of knowing how this will work until the show actually begins. I was instructed to bring the book and go to them on the floor to find out. This idicates a huge amount of disorganization to me, since setting this thing up isn't very complicated and should be extremely easy to promote ahead of the show... or at least be able to answer questions.

The following added on to what is already some shady practices about CGC. I explained that the book was already sealed and graded at 5.0. The rep responded by asking what I want to establish its value at. I questioned this, sbut then told her what I apid for it She then put me on hold and told me that the charge would be $215.00 for a signing and resealing. I again pointed out it had already been graded and she responded that it would be graded again and CGC wouldn't guarantee that it would grade at the same condition..... huh?

Between this admission and the company charging more based on the "value" of the book, the company isn't gaining any points with me as a professional organization. Just thought it was interesting enough to toss onto this thread.
