I've always done step #4 as my second step.

I prefer the darker blue for Superman, like on this micro:
It just looks sharper to my eyes.

I do not understand why some artists insist on making the emblems on superhero costumes solid and not cloth.  I just looks goofy.

Steve, I agree. The Michael Keaton-style emblem is not ideal.

The emblem on the belt never made sense to me. I didn't like it with Superman either.

Yeah, that definitely seems like an either/or, doesn't it? "I'll have this big honkin' emblem on my chest, AND a little bitty one on my belt buckle."

By the way, once more with feeling: EMBLEM not "logo". The logo is on the cover, the emblem is on the costume.

If DC must go with the Batman oval emblem, can it at least be flat instead of prodtruding from his chest? Oh, and how about a utility belt that has special capsules affixed to it instead of pouches?

I'm determined that the reason the emblem is on the belt is because of those little kiosks in malls that sell the belt buckles with the emblems on them. That way, when people wear them, they can feel like the "real" Batman and Superman who wear the same belt buckle... of their own emblem, which is emblazoned on their chest.

It's all marketing! All of it!

This is were the line is crossed between symbol and fetish.

Often used by non superhero fans working on superhero material: it brings the Doc Savage movie to mind and its use of the "DOC SAVAGE" paperback novels logo. As if Doc would use a logo.

Or, wear a belt buckle with same Doc Savage logo.  Strange!
