About Karate Kid-----is karate a super-power?

••

How about Matter-Eater Lad? Wasn't it eventually revealed EVERYBODY from his planet could do what he did? So that's like calling blond hair a super power!

*************************************

Being a member of the Legion was something like a diplomatic service for his planet.

Also, for Karate Kid, he was the master of all forms of martial arts in the 31st century.  The only one to do so.

Cool Cosmic Boy.  Tried to get into LSH myself but never could do it.  Loved the playfulness of it when I would see the comics on the racks as a kid, though.

JB (in part): "How about Matter-Eater Lad? Wasn't it eventually revealed EVERYBODY from his planet could do what he did?"

Haven't read Legion for 3 or four incarnations now, but I seem to recall that was true of a few members, Cosmic Boy, Shadow Lass, & Saturn Girl among them; it was when they got to Earth that their powers made them "unique" and "special".

Oh, yeah, by the way: GREAT feckin' drawing, chief!  It's really too bad ya don't like the Legion; if you were drawin' 'em on a regular basis, I'd be buyin' 'em on the same basis.

I liked it when they started rendering his power as big ellipses.

Yeah, it's interesting how different artist interpret magnetic powers.

Of the first 19 Legionnaires (those that were on the team during the pre-Shooter years), 11 came from a world where everyone shared their powers. If you throw in Superboy and Supergirl, that's 13 out of 21 who weren't nothin' special.

All people from Shadow Lass' planet didn't have the shadow powers.  Only certain members of her family.  Similar to Lightning Lad, who shares his powers with his siblings, but they were in a freak accident to recieve them.

Lemme think.  Entire planet:

Mon-El
Saturn Girl
Cosmic Boy
Polar Boy
Dream Girl
Shrinking Violet
Chamelon Boy
Matter-Eater Lad (Was only a member because he won a contest)
Phantom Girl (But she's the only one who live in this dimension)

Karate Kid was allowed to join because he defeated Superboy in single combat. If you can beat Superboy, you can be a Legionnaire.

Also, if you have Kryptonian-level powers (or the equivalent, i.e. Daxamite), its basically an automatic induction (as long as the members vote you in), even though you would be replicating the powers of a standing member (possibly the most perfect double entendre ever).

And last, the Legionnaires weren't being mean to Superboy, they were testing him. Some might see it as hazing, but they wanted to see him in action, and he delivered. In spades. They were going to offer him membership anyway, but the fact that he humbly refused to use their distractions as an excuse for why he lost the contest forced their hand.

You might see it as mean, but the Legionnaires were in awe of Superboy the entire time.

Add to my list above:

Triplicate Girl (But she was unique in not dying when one of her selves was killed)
Brainiac 5
Element Lad (But he's the last surviving member of his race)
Dawnstar
Tellus

(Some of which are post-Shooter legionaires)
