Anyone remember the mother that drowned all 3(4?) of her kids? Them dang modern plumbing luxuries are dangerous too.
*************
SER: This is the absurd part of the gun rights argument. People can be killed in a litany of ways. However, does that mean we cannot remove the means of killing people that is *easier* than the others and not in any way necessary to living in our current society (e.g. plumbing, knives -- unless you're in China -- and cars).
*************** Then consider how many people are in favor of guns -- if they were ever banned, then gun-running would become an unstoppable national epidemic in the US. ***************
SER: Criminals can't legally buy guns anyway. The only people affected by such a ban would be the much-cited "legally-abiding" citizens. Would they suddenly risk fines or jail time to have a hand gun in the house?
*************
So, as with the illicit drug industry, maybe it'd be better to legalize guns and regulate the holy hell out of them...
(Ignoring, of course, the fact that most pro-gun nutjobs hate hate HATE the thought of having to jump through government hoops to buy their guns)
**************
SER: Agreed. It is easier for me to get a gun than it is for me -- even if I could afford it -- to fly a plane legally.

The very fact it CAN be ammended shows that the founders were aware they weren't perfect.
****************
So why is that so many of the people who favor the free and easy access to guns believe this one single amendment to be perfect?
They have no way of knowing what the Founding Fathers would think if they could see the proliferation of guns and gun violence today.

Exactly, Bill.
You can do everything except touch their retarded (in every sense of the word) interpretation of that one part of the Constitution.

Tougher laws against ILLEGAL gun posession would help curb the problem of illegal guns in this country. I have a few friends on the local police force and I hear too many stories about drug dealers and the like getting arrested and yet, our idiotic judges give these creeps a slap on the wrist and send them home. Just the other day my friend was telling me about this up and coming gang-banger who was arrested for posession of a 357 magnum. Guess how old he is? 14 years old!! What can we do about that? Send him to Juvenile Hall or Boot Camp? The judge just gave him a slap on the wrist and sent him home. The police do a great job of enforcing the law. It's the judges who need to grow a pair of balls and enforce the law. Throw the book at these creeps, you'll see things change rather quickly.

Like it is in England, Canada, Japan. . . ?
Apples and oranges. Unlike most other places in the world, Gun Love is so ingrained in US culture that some people -- maybe thousands, if not much, much more of them -- would violently oppose the illegalization of guns. And those who didn't violently oppose them would turn gunrunning into a billion dollar black market industry -- just as drugs are now, just as alcohol was in the 20's (if you take into account inflation).
The law against murder is impossible to enforce, or we would not have any murder trials in this country. Does that make it a bad law?
Are the laws against murder impossible to enforce? It seems to me that most people who commit murder are caught and convicted. But, compared with gun owners, there are a miniscule number of murderers in the US -- there were 13,000+ murders in 2009, which doesn't take into account repeat offenders -- compared with an estimated 80 million people who own more than 250 million guns. It's relatively reasonable to assume that we have the resources to hunt and arrest 13,000 murderers a year ... but if the number of illegal gun-owners totaled in the millions, would there be enough manpower to enforce that law?
Regardless, JB, would you agree with me that Gun Nuts -- for whom there are millions who might fall into that category, based on the NRA's membership totals -- would a) fight to keep their guns, and b) find a way to get guns even if they were illegal?

All the gun lovers should be shot.
Then maybe some reasonable, sensible, proactive and constructive work can be done to change both legislation and the culture.
A modest proposal.

SER: So, the US is a nation of potential terrorists? Rather than attempting to change the law -- if they disagree so much -- they instead will actually buy guns illegally from criminals who will use that money to commit the types of crimes they want to buy guns illegally to protect themselves from? What?
Little black girls were murdered in churches and there was no violent reaction. The Civil Rights Movement worked within the law, thanks to men like Thurgood Marshall and Martin Luther King.
Gay men and lesbians in California had their families spit on by the government and they did not take to the streets violently but instead they chose to try to change the laws legally.
If minorities and gays are capable of fighting oppression peacefully and within the framework of the law, why can't we conceive of gun-rights advocates doing the same? And if we can't, then why the hell would we let these people have guns in the first place? Let them try to buy guns from Easy Andy so we can throw them in jail.
