Statitistically, there is greater chance of a self inflicted wound or a wound to a family member than any intruder. *** This is basically my thought process on this. I do not own a gun, therefore the possibility of me or a loved one being injured or killed by an on-premise gun is 0%. If I were to own a gun, that percentage would obviously increase -- to what extent, I couldn't guess -- but clearly greater than 0%. Now what is more likely to occur -- an intruder breaking into my home with the intention of doing bodily harm, or the gun causing an accidental death or injury? My gut tells me the later.

And my thought process is, the percentage also increases when your neighbour owns guns. I've seen bullet holes go through stucco siding, insulation, drywall, through a living area, through the next sheet of drywall on the wall opposite, and get stuck in the drywall on the other side going out into the next room.
I get made fun of for my "you'll shoot the neighbours!" comment, but I've seen it happen and it was only few feet above where a family member was sleeping on the couch. If she'd been standing... it probably still would have missed, she's short. That's not the point though.

You got made fun of for it, Brad, and that was after Mike O'Brien confirmed that he's had stray bullets from a neighbours gun enter his own home!

In all fairness Al, the bullets only showed up at Mike's because they've never seen Twin Peaks and they wanted to watch it with someone who could explain what the hell it was about.

Ah, so it was the greatness of Twin Peaks that drew them through the wall at such high velocity.
Mike should know better.

I hate to say something so inflamatory, but I suspect any bullets through my walls were due to my support of Obama. One of my neighbors defaced my Obama bumper sticker and another started grilling me at the pool the other day - even going so far as to question my religion because of my Obama shirt (I quote: "Are you a jew?").Frankly, the bleeding-heart liberal in me feels pity and sorrow for these people. They can't control themselves. They're feeble minded children who have a box in their living rooms screaming at them all day to FEAR OBEY BUY OBEY FEAR BUY TITS OBEY BUY FEAR and before they know it, they wake up, covered in blood, somehow owning a bunch of gold, wondering what happened to their lives.

Never been good at Obeying. As a writer I am excluded-by-career from much Buying. But I have always been very, very good at Tits.

Jesus, Mike, maybe I wasn't paying attention when I read your post earlier, but I had no idea someone may have shot at your house specifically! I thought it was mistaken identity (the family member of mine who had her place shot at was a suspected gang retaliation but they got the wrong house) or an accident (a misfire or bad aim).
You pity those people, I pity YOU for living in a country where such things are not only approved of, they're CELEBRATED. It's disgusting watching America destroy itself that way, all because some people are too stupid to realize killing is wrong.

No, no, Brad - you are right - I said in the post that, according to the police, it was a drunken accident, but .... like... I certainly don't trust my neighbors after some of the things that have happened. I wouldn't put it past them.

Yeah.. drunken accident was all the police could say because it was all that they could prove. Seriously, though - that 2nd Amendment is just about the worst thing your country ever did to itself.

And the insanity continues:

This thread started two weeks ago. Can anyone provide an article with a counter example of a gun in the home *protecting* a child?
