Brad,
Scott's hypothetical situation is no less plausible than your hypothetical shooting of his hypothetical neighbor when he hypothetically misses his hypothetical assailant. I take that back...your's is less plausible as in your overly dramatic scenario the hypothetical miss ALWAYS hits the neighbor.
Also, the Andy Dick thing...not really all that funny. If this were jr high then maybe...buuuuuut, it'd have to be a really lame jr high.
And you are all wrong...the only way to really take care of a zombie is with a flamethrower! Burn 'em till there's nothing left!

Swords are illegal in my country. I know, a lot of LARPers run around with big fantasy swords, but they have to round off the edges of the blade or keep it at home, locked away. You can still use the, but they're less effective as blunt instruments. You can't get a good clean zombie decapitation with a dull edge.

The difference in our scenarios, Andy, is that ANY time it hits someone who wasn't the intended target, it's gone too far. Even if it only happens once in a thousand times, it's too much. It's defeated the purpose. People cling to irrational fears that some vague boogey man is going to hurt them, or as they like to say to sound more noble, their family, but when they end up shooting their own family, or if the kid sucks on the gun not knowing better or an accident happens, or whatever... who is protecting people now?

Jodi, if that fearsome looking dog is yours, I may need to rethink my diabolical plot to break into your house to steal your Lucy and Wonder Woman ponies.

---
My overly dramatic scenario only begins with the possibility that "collateral damage" (Scott's words) could occur with the use of a gun. Everything else in there is YOURS and SCOTT'S overly dramatic scenario about WHY YOU NEED GUNS.
My point is only that you two are both willing and capable of killing random innocent people from a distance with a gun, however accidentally, and that you're both okay with that because YOU feel safer. YOU are holding YOUR safety over mine, and saying my life, the lives of everyone around, don't matter as much as YOURS. As long as you're protected, it doesn't matter what the possible consequences are for anyone else.
That makes you the LAST people that should be able to own guns, because you just don't care.

Al, can you do us all a favour and have your guns destroyed so they can never ever cause harm? In this day an age you have no reason to own them, no need for them, and selling them could result in them harming them. Put your money where your mouth is and have them destroyed.

What is your line of reasoning on that, Randy? What does "in this day and age" mean, anyway? What kind of guns do you think I have, and what kind of gun owner do you think I am?

Extrapolate gun ownership to everyone in a country, and the scenario of lots of people being accidentally (or purposely) killed is hardly fantasy. That's what pro-gun advocates want isn't it - the right for everyone to carry a gun anywhere they want? Certainly that would be what's needed to actually make the gun of practical use in self defense, rather than keeping it locked away at home. Once virtually everyone is carrying guns, how much of a stretch is it to imagine that there will be lots more deaths as a result. To say that every single gun owner will be responsible with their weapon, now that's the fantasy scenario!

Koroush, Yes. That's exactly what we pro-gun advocates want. We want everyone in the country to carry a weapon regardless of their desire. We also want all paved roads to go away so we can have the feel of the old west and want the theme from "The Good, The Bad And The Ugly" played every time we walk into town.

If gun ownership is a right as presented by the Second Amendment, then who decides who can't own guns? The corrupt and evil Government, the bleeding heart anti-gun lobby? No sir. I want my guns, and if you want to stop me, then you'll have to come and take them from my cold, dead hands!
