Who doesn't love/favor his or her family more than a family of strangers?  Are you ever as sad to see a stranger die as you would be to see a parent, your spouse, or your child?

---

I see where you're coming from, Kurtis, and I agree that when stuff happens to strangers even if it hits you really hard it's not the same as when it happens to people you know and care about.

However, that's NOT the scenario here. The scenario here is, I'm WILLFULLY putting other people's safety at risk to save my own. Like, if I wanted to build an electric fence around my house, I should have the right to do so. My kids will never touch it, and if your kids do that sucks but it's acceptable in return for mine being safe.

In other words, it's not only less tragic to me if your kids die than it is for mine to die, I'm willing to actually kill one of your innocent kids in order to keep mine safe.

Al,
My least favorite carnival rides are those that spin in circles and always end up where they start much like our conversation.  I've answered this particular question or a derivative of it ad nauseam.  If you've got any others then ask away.  I'm finished with this one.

Andy... if you fire that gun and a stray bullet goes through the window, and it kills my little girl in her bedroom in the house behind yours, then yes, YES YOU DO VALUE YOU YOUR FAMILY MORE THAN MINE.

My daughter had to die so you could save yours, and that's a fair trade-off for you. Because if you were defending yourself with a bat, a crowbar, an axe, a can of mace, a taser, etc, my kid wouldn't be dead. But you're willing to take that chance to protect yours.

Nice guy.
*******

Brad,
I think you have this directed at the wrong gun-nut, as I've never said that.

I was just trying to get a straight answer from you, since you questioned my ability to connect the dots of everything you've said and taken issue with my summarization of your position as " think that they've decided their lives are worthless, so I can shoot them!"

That you don't want to give a straight answer to direct questions that could be used to determine if that summarization is off base, it simply reeks of you realizing that direct answers would indeed support my position and be devastating to your claim that what you have already clearly said is not actually what you said.

But whatever.  Feel free to put me on 'ignore,' since you're essentially doing that already.

Before you do, though, Andy, I've been dying to ask:

How are things at the Moon River Theatre in Branson?

Al,
I think I've given straight answers.  If you were expecting short, succinct answers like "YES, kill all criminals" you were never going to get them from me because that's just not how I feel and think that I stated that clearly.  This isn't an A or B kind of question no matter how hard you try to simplify it...A=Good People=Life; B=Bad People=Shoot'em and let God Sort'em.

If you want to continue this particular line of questioning we're going to need a bar, some St. Arnold's Brown (local...maybe national now...beer) and a couple of hours.  I'm not putting you on ignore...just choosing to filter out that particular line of questioning as it's really going nowhere.

Things in Branson are pretty good...they'd be better if it wasn't for Dancing with the Stars and those damn Osmonds.

Totally off topic then, you aren't really that Andy Williams, are you?  Wait until I tell my mom!

But since I stand by my summation of your clearly stated thoughts, I'll have to tell her when I come up to visit next I'm going to have to break it to her that you're really not her kind of person at all.

Nope.  Not that Andy Willliams.  I am going to sue that old bastard for pain and suffering though...do you have any idea how many times I've heard "ANDY WILLIAMS...sing me Moon River...hahahahahahahahaha" in my life?
I'm really not a bad guy...for a gun-nut...who doesn't own a gun...

Oh...yeah...my Dad's name...Hank Williams.  No kidding.

Well, I'm a pro-gun-control advocate who owns guns.

And at least you didn't get called Hank Williams Jr.

That guy sucks.

Yeah...we should sit down and have a beer.  I don't really feel like arguing anymore but at least your interesting to talk to...and a bona fide gun toting anti-gun nut.

I had a roommate who went to see Jr. in Kansas.  Jr. walked out on stage (drunk or stoned or both), grabbed the mike and yelled "I hate Kansas...Kansas sucks" then walked off the stage and ended the concert.  The roommate wasn't a big fan of country music to begin with...that kind of killed that genre for him totally...

Did they play the Sanford and Son theme for his intro and exit?
