Al, answering for myself: dead if that's what it would take to end the harm another person was trying to do to myself or a loved one. And I wouldn't care if it was a gun, a knife or a shovel, if it ended the harm trying to be inflicted. And in that scenario, I would value my life and the life of my loved ones above that person trying to do us harm.

I don't play baseball nor do I own a crowbar. All kidding aside, I'll do what is necessary to prevent any harm to myself or my wife. If that entails holding the perp at gunpoint until the police arrive, then so be it. If the perp is hell bent on harming me or my wife and I cannot safely exit my home well then, he chose his fate. It's going to be either him or us. What would be your choice?

So what's wrong with a taser. Doesn't it achieve the same result without risk of accidentally killing other people? Why this obsession with guns?

Shhhhh, Koroush. Voices of reason don't go over well when people are talking about their guns.

For the record, I do not own a gun. I like the idea of the taser, but would be just as worried that my kids could get a hold of that as they could a gun.

For the record as well, I am a proud gun owner; two rifles (one antique) and two shotguns.

Far less potential for a fatal accident for them with a taser.

I suppose "You can take my taser from my cold dead hands" doesn't have the same ring to it.

The most hilarious thing about those whose views are in line with the NRA/Heston phrase "you can take my gun when you pry it from my cold dead hands" is they seem completely ignorant of the fact that's usually exactly what happens - their bullet-holed corpse has no need for a gun of its own anymore though, so I guess it's no big deal.

My real worry is that they would realize this, and want to continue using it on one another, time after time! :-)

I too like the idea of a taser but i'm not sure if we can legally own them in Massachusetts. That would be a great alternative to home/self defense as compared to a gun. Less mess to clean up afterwards. Seriously, I do like the idea of a taser. I'll have to find out about the legality of them here in Massachusetts. IMO, it's a much safer option than a gun which does occasionally fall into the wrong hands.
